US Waistlines Continue to Gain
U.S. Waistlines Keep Growing, With Women Leading the Way
The average waist size ballooned more than an inch -- from 37.6 inches to 38.8 inches -- between 1999 and 2012, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers found. One of the few metrics where I am happy to be well below average. ![]() |

I heard that Dumberican fatness has plateaued in the last few years. Wonder if the study controls for age and ethnic factors.
This being said: * White-collar slave hours combined with long commutes by car can't be helping any. Time was that 40 hr per week meant 45 hr, not 50 or 55, with additional time spent answering email at home. * People being priced out of neighborhoods that aren't utter pestholes, and thus having to commute 2 hr/day, gorging their yap-holes with fast-food on the way. Self-driving cars will likely worsen this... * Chemicals in food, read up on obesogens. * Of course, kids can't play outside or walk to school. It's sooooo daaaaaaangerous. Never mind that crime was much higher 20-30 years ago. |

Carbs are cheap and plentiful, fat and protein are expensive. Go figure.

Ever seen a 50s cookbook? They use much more fat (lard and mayo) than we do now. The problem is portion size and habits.

Oh and besizes waste line, take look at the prevalence of cardio vascular disease, diabetes and alzheimers. Its all results from the over consumption of carbohydrates. Slow carbs, "whole grains", starches and even fruit is all the same bull **** when it hits your blood stream.

We eat different food then they did in fifties, while still consuming almost the same calories a day. We eat and drink a lot of stuff witch the body has no clue with what to do with. Obesity rates went up when corn syrup was introduced in our food supply and there is a second spike in the eighties when light and diet products became popular.

Yes, people in general "eat and drink a lot of stuff witch the body has no clue with what to do with". It causes cancer and other debilitating diseases. The smart ones who avoid the chemical crap and processed 'food', are also generally thinner and more fit than the corn sugar addicts.

Artificial sweeteners may exacerbate, rather than prevent, metabolic disorders such as Type 2 diabetes, a study suggests.
It could be that artificial sweeteners lead to an expansion of bacterial species that extract energy from food that often gets stored as fat, contributing to obesity, Nagler said. It's also possible the sweeteners could suppress the growth of other bacteria that seem to stave off insulin resistance, she said. Artificial sweeteners linked to obesity epidemic, scientists say - Health - CBC News I'm well below average with a 32" waist that hasn't changed since my mid 20s. I avoid chemicals in food, including artificial anything.

This is how Ive got it done in the past for losing the pounds ,Two well sized salads with meat (grilled chicken ,ham ,boiled egg, tuna)as part of the topping ,no beacon ,cheese or heavy dressings .In addition its about limits on calories without filling starved or weak so in between meals the snack of choice is a limited intake of fruits or unsalted nuts to fill the void, some nuts are packaged giving you the calorie count per package, these you can find at Target stores. To excersise youll need to Walk at least 2 miles a day ,this equals to be around a 2 pound loss each week ,right now Ive lost 12 pounds at the 6 week mark ,at week 12 I should have reached the goal of 25 pounds, the extra energy you have is just a bonus of the weight loss. Their is a belief that most, if not all, fast foods have a certain degree of food preservatives added to extend shelf life ,some of these additives are deemed safe for consumption ,Its my belief that once you take almost all sugars and salts out of your food intake ,plus the preservatives ,your body can start to rid itself of pounds with limited excercise,Ive even made room to drink a few light beers at night ,3 16oz bud lights and still making progress. The biggest failure for dieters is a reward catagory they give themselves after accomplishing a part of their schedule,to remember the goal of weight loss is the reward and not a candybar ,if you sidetrack your goal it becomes negatory to each goal you have achieved to that point. The more you put into it the more you get out.Once youve found a workable program its just about maintaining a portian control after the weight is off ,but remember salts and sugars are behind most weight issues here in America.
