Mandatory Flu Mist

Being in the military, flu vaccination is mandatory for me. They highly prefer to give the mist rather than the shot whenever possible, I'm not sure why, maybe it's cheaper. Anyway, this is my sixth time getting the mist. The first four times I got sick from it. The fifth time I didn't. This last one was four hours ago and I'm not miserable, but I feel a little different and my temperature is up to 100, so it doesn't look good for tomorrow. I've had the shot three times and never got sick from it. This sucks.

When I've gotten sick from the mist, the onset was four to eight hours, followed by feeling really bad for about another twelve before rapidly feeling better. My plan for this bout is to go and get drunk enough to not notice I'm sick, then sleep in tomorrow, so that I should be through most of the worst of it by the time I get up.

Flu vaccination is often mandatory for healthcare workers and some others. Many people react to the vaccine much more badly than I do. Discus.

What's the cost to bribe some poor prick to "sign off" on it? Or perhaps have something plastic up your nose to "protect" it, pretend to inhale, then go to the bathroom and wash real good afterwards.

If I got caught trying to bribe a corpsman I might get promoted to civilian. Since I didn't get sick from last year's vaccine I was hopeful about not getting sick from this one. I did blow my nose about ten seconds after they shot the goo in.

But seriously, I hope it passes over soon. The flu is no fun.

The last few years I got sick from the flue shot so I did not get one last year. I did get the flue but I think I did the year before too.

I don't get flu shots; I don't get the flu. I maintain a healthy immune system by eating right and staying fit.

Of course for all the junk-food eating urban inhabitants, ya better get yer flu shots; it will help keep you in line over the holidays.

The flu shot you get is for the flu that Australia had 6 months ago. In Australia, where flu season is the opposite of in the US (for Australians, flu season begins in May and ends in October), twice as many cases of the virus were reported this year than last. That means this flu season in the US — October to May — could be more interesting than usual.
This chart shows how that works

I'm in a similar boat, but as a reservist, they are usually cool with me getting a shot (or mist) via my employer and bringing in evidence. I'll be on someone's list next drill but I should have good evidence by then.

it occurred to me, that such evidence (lot number, date, injection site and a brand of vaccine) is pretty easy to forge if you wanted to circumvent the process- since this data could come from anywhere (urgent health care room, Krogers, Dr. office, CVS...). Personally, I have no desire to but the option is there if you wanted to avoid the mandatory or one or explore other options.
Most of the unit got them yesterday, so I'll watch my facebooks to see if a 'rash' of compliants appear... (more than normal at least)

Lastly: ballsy move Skippy- bringing up vaccines on mercedesshop

I'm stuck with debating every year whether or not I should get the vaccine. One batch of my docs say "you're on immuno-suppressants - you MUST get the vaccine!"

The other batch of my docs say "you're on immuno-suppressants - you CAN'T get the vaccine!"

I haven't gotten a flu vaccine yet (this or any other year), and did get influenza-B a couple months back. Not fun, but it wasn't the worst bug I've had to deal with.

The mist is live - although attenuated- virus. It can cause more flu like symptoms than the shot, which is dead virus. Mist isn't recommended for anyone over 49. I never have any symptoms from the shot other than a sore arm.

Good news. I had a low grade fever, slight headache, and a bit of a stuffy head last night. I treated with copious quantities of Stella Artois, then went to bed and stayed there for 13 hours. Today I have no symptoms from the mist. However, I am sore in several places from the PT test I ran earlier yesterday.
