Lust

I was going to post one of those annoying guessing game threads but decided against it. My friends came by today so decided to post a few. This is the same car featured on Jay Leno's Garage.

The big Hemi, 6.1 I think I know it has a Magnussen supercharger and is rated at 640 hp and I think 600+ fp of torque.

I see they copied that side-mount spare tire look from that 70's Cadillac roadster/"coupe".

What a fantastic and stunning car!!!

I was surprised to run across this little nugget: "Cobra designer Carroll Shelby and father of the Corvette Zora Arkus Duntov both drove Allards in the early 1950s."

Two weeks ago I drove thru some really scenic sections of Quebec just north of the NY/Vermont border. It sure would have been nice to have one of those for the drive. Didn't really expect it to be a French car.

The Allard was English....at least the original one was. Built by Sydney Allard.

The original had independent front suspension created by sawing a ford beam axle in two and making it pivot in the center.....a primitive swing axle for the front suspension. It gave them a reputation for being a bit evil to drive. Apparently the car steered itself when going over bumps and dips.

Shelby was good enough to figure it out and not be intimidated by them. He also raced some of the mid fifties big engine Ferraris which also had a reputation for being a bit evil....before winning LeMans with Roy Salvadori in an Aston Martin and having to quit because of a weak heart.

in retirement he decided to build a car with an English chassis and an American v8, of course, the Cobra.

The rest is history.
