I see it here all the time. I'd love to have a train horn and blow them back to reality.

Citations, impounding vehicle; jail. None of these will stop it. Has any of this had an affect on drunk driving?

It would be interesting if the police were allowed to confiscate the offenders phone. You don't get it back. Your phone is destroyed. You get to buy another phone. You've lost not only your phone, but all your contact information, addresses, etc. This would be a bigger slap in the face than a fine.

Is this cruel and unusual punishment? Maybe, but so is plowing into the back of a car operated by mom with her 2 infants children in the back.

Civil rights groups will squawk. Let 'um squawk.

One thing I'd like to have is one of those cell jammers that blocks reception. I would just laugh driving along behind someone and watching their frustration when the messages failed.

They've been ticketing here for all non-hands free talking and texting for a couple years now. Can't say that I see any fewer people doing it. I suppose it's a revenue stream...

In Oklahoma the Cops always ask for your phone number after an accident. Is this so they can call you with updates on you case? Nope. It is so they can check to see if you were on the phone at the time of the accident.

If so you now have far more problems than just a busted up car.

Yet another reason for autonomous and passive safety systems. US drives seemingly love to do everything in a car, except paying attention to driving. Here in AZ, the court had to rule on a claim by users of medical marijuana that the Rx gave them an exemption from impaired driving laws . . . idiots.

I don't get how people can do other things in the car. Its just way to distracting.

I drive on the turnpike everyday. Mostly I see older men. Some women, very few young ones though. I see people talking on the phone.

I see a few people texting or leaning over to adjust their radio.

I saw one person reading a book. Yes. Reading a damned book.

I mean I put on an audio book, or podcast, or hour long mix of some music and just drive. I dont mess with anything other than the HVAC controls.

I want to slap people when they look at their phone while driving. It just doesn't compute for me. At a stop light? sure but at 70 MPH?
