Electric blower fan repair, Christ blow up decoration

im trying to fix a large inflatable christmas decoration, it lights up but the fan blower doesnt run. i took it apart and all the wires are okay.

Electric motor has 2 wires going into it, and 2 wires going out and thru a little black box. the little black box is only about a inch and half long and a half inch thick, it says VIM QPC-MEA3 2.0UF 250 VAC. What is that black box for? Could that be why i cant get the fan to run?

Thanks

That is a motor run capacitor. Test with an Ohms meter it will show low ohms when first connected, as it charges up the resistance will go to an open circuit.

If always open circuit or conductivity it is bad.

An appliance parts place should have one if it tests bad.

Were the wires burned or cut off?

It is a 2 micro farad unit , you can usually go 10% in either direction without a problem. However don't drop on the 250 voltage.

Thanks for the answer just what i was looking for, I cut the wires when i pulled it out. I hooked it up to a ohm meter and it was open and never showed ay resistance, just wide open. Ill try and find one tomorrow, maybe radio shack will have one. Thanks

if radio shack fails, try Grainger - motor starting capacitors are common in home HVAC equipment.

I took apart an inflatable a few years ago and it was powered by a 12v bulb and fan - the wall-wart (12v power supply) failed so I hooked it up to an old computer P/S - worked well until the 'computer part left outside'-effect set in Oh well...

I hope your repair is longer lasting than mine
