Anyone do Sturgis Bike Week?

Some friends and I are discussing riding out to Bike Week 2015, but none of us have ever been. The videos and pictures on the web of Bike Week make it look like a giant party!

So has anyone here ever been? Any advice? Would you do it again?

Haven't done Sturgis since 2006, but I went for fifteen years straight up until then. Best word I can think of to describe it is FUN!!! It helps if you leave your inhibitions at home We used to trailer the bikes with a friends RV. The wife and I, plus two other couples. Man, I miss those days.......

You did read where he said he trailered his bike, right?

The event is decidedly cruiser, and heavily Harley. I've heard of people going on metric cruisers, but some have reported negatively on the experience. I haven't been, and to be honest, have little interest in going, as it's not really my type of thing, however, I'd be willing to bet that much like other large events, there are all sorts of different people there, and much of your experience likely depends on what sort of input you provide.

Honestly, Sturgis is just a good reason to get on a bike and just ride.

Daytona Bike Week was another thought, but I'd like to see more of the mid/north US.

Who needs a reason? Let me know when you want to come south and tour the Parks and the surrounding less known roads. We can plan to meet somewhere about Oakhurst and meander south from there.

Might wait until less snow though, too many good high elevation roads are closed now. Foothills are open though!

I did Daytona twice in the late 90's. Compared to Sturgis, Daytona is kinda' boring IMHO. The riding in the Black Hills is way nicer, scenery-wise. Lots of open roads! The bars are crazy, and finding good music is no problem. Daytona was OK, but Sturgis was insane.

Laconia, NH, would be my second choice after Sturgis. A few dozen friends and I went up in 2009, the year I bought my HD Fat Boy (the Mrs. decided to sit that one out). Sturgis was a 30+ hour trip, but NH was only about 6. We rode up for that one, no trailer required.

The wife and I got married on the stage between bands playing at Angel City, Unadilla during their Spring rally in 2009. Had the time of our life.

Daytona in the spring is a crap shoot weather wise. Especially for the I rode mine crowd. Biketoberfest in Oct. is a much better alternative weatherwise. Then couple that with a run to Key West for Fantasy Festival. Fu-uun! BTDT.

Never been to Sturgis, but scenery is much better than central FL I'd be willing to guess. Everyone I've spoken to says the scenery and riding are great.

Harley used to have a fly & ride rental program, if you afraid to show up on a Crotch rocket.

I'd be curious to know how many bikes are reported stolen in Sturgis and Daytona during their events.

My advice to you on the left coast for pure riding is Sturgis (distance ) then Laconia (scenery). My further advice for Laconia from CA would be to trailer. $hit happens.

I call Sturgis like Mardis Gras for motorcycles. I am told it is not what it used to be. I went once and it was mostly all newer bikes and I was looking for the old iron bikes from the time when I was young. Was told that to ride the old stuff you have to be able to work on them yourself and to ride the new stuff you just have to clear a check. It changed everything.

My Sturgis visit prompted me to buy a couple old iron bikes that I recently sold after they sat in storage for several years and I rarely even looked at them. I don't often make impulse purchases. Just me being silly. It was fun. It was all fun. I liked speed week at Bonneville better.
