Exceptional snow storm ongoing here.

Snowing heavy here all day and ongoing throughout the night. Eight feet high against the house in places and nearby drifts already. Never seen even this amount of snow down currently in the forty years we have lived here in eastern Canada.

Very windy as well although a hill to the west of us protects the house somewhat. I only hope the power stays on as it has already failed in some areas of the county. Fast hydro fixes in the wind and conditions will be out of the question.

BIL and MIL moved to PEI this year. Saw some pictures last week of their snow. The next set should be a sight to behold. Stay warm.

Yeah some pretty amazing weather. I know I always start most Winters , like a lot of northerners, hoping to get started on a few MB projects "if" we have a mild Winter.......update.....it's not going to be a mild one. Hope your power stays on.
Do many people in your area have backup generators?

Well the storm is over this morning. Plow had some problems but got the driveway open. Got stuck once but another plow passing stopped and got him out.

The current issue to me is there is no warmer weather in the forcast to melt some of the accumulation down. At least our power stayed on.

A poster mentioned about the prevalence of home generators. Probably getting close to fifty percent here now. It is wise to always have some form of heat available that does not depend on electricity. Few would have enough gas on hand for their generators given a several day outage if it arrived.

They probably would not think to get some out of their car tanks either. A lot like ourselves just have a wood stove for that unlikely event. Plus various forms of alternative lighting. Including some really bright kerosene types.

I just looked out a minute ago and it is snowing again with no wind anymore. Strong enough though for some additional accumulation.

Here in MidLantica we got maybe an inch Sat. night. Wind roaring like a freight train. Its cold though..4 deg. f this morning.
Our snow comes tonite. 5-8 inches expected. Temps below 20 deg. until Sat. (30 deg. forecast). A good year to be in the heating oil biz....if you can find the fill cap.

Glad to hear you're staying warm and are prepared to do so if the power goes out. But I gotta say

Weird weather. We're desperate for snow in the Sierras out here. Very warm January. It's been almost 70 out recently. It would be nice if it wasn't so weird.

Scroll thru these pictures of PEI. My MIL lives in Summerside. The pictures of people tunneling thru the snow to find their car are amazing.

You think that's bad? Why, we had almost an eight of an inch of ice on the roads a few days ago. It lasted almost five hours before it melted away. Oklahoma.... The frozen wasteland.

I thought I was going to go stir crazy being penned in like that.

It's all relative.

Those are! My father went to the University of ME at Orono and always talked about walking through the snow tunnels between buildings and students skiing off the building roofs and down the snowdrifts. I always took it as a "had to walk uphill both ways" story. It's a little easier to visualize now.

Snow is a 4 letter word. Cold is a 4 letter word. Ice is a 4 letter word.
