But... Manual windows... and quite a few dings but.... It's a truck. I should expect that.

Hummmm, one way to make a cool story. Buy a cheap truck halfway across the country based off a handful of pictures and a few dozen test messages/emails.

We shall see...

I did that. Would up with a truck that had a blown engine.

Never had a purchase like that show up as described. So many horror stories with my dealership. Some documented on here. I could literally write a book about dirt bag lying sellers and the amount of time/$$$ they cost me. To sum things up, if it's from Florida or New Jersey, don't bother going any further. I have never had a deal go well coming from either of those states.

Here is one of the very first, before my dealership, documented on here.

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/open-discussion/267823-wasted-saturday-e320-dud-crazy-woman.html

A specific example involves a 2000 Dakota traded in to me. It had a misfire and the seller said he just had a mechanic look at it and say it needed a tune up. I asked him directly if they checked compression because it looked like the spark plug wires were new. He said yes. I gave him a somewhat lowball trade bid and he very quickly accepted... Well, you guessed it, dead cylinder, junkyard motor replacement.

....or how about buying a Ford Expedition from a Ford dealership Mechanic. He bought it off a customer who had a spark plug pop out (common 5.4 problem). Told me he fixed it for his wife but she doesn't like it. He didn't tell me the part about putting liquid glass in the cooling system because the motor was severely overheated and head gaskets/heads warped. Lasted about 500 miles.

How about a 1998 S320 in Florida with a bribed off PPI that showed up with rust, a bad head gasket, and a completely failed barely moving under its own power transmission, along with a litany of electrical issues.

I could go on and on and on. It's very hard not to have a dim view of humanity in that business.

Found the EXACT truck I wanted. 04, quad cab, 4wd, v6, stick. 155k miles. Listed at $6,000 but on cl for a month. Talked to the owner a few times all was good. Asked if he had any room in the price, said he'd take $5,000... Said ok, had it inspecteted at a well rated local shop, called to see if he'd had it there before (he hadnt) and asked him to take it there for inspection. Found brakes getting to be 20% or so, tires NOT half tread as explained, but almost bald, some play in ball joints and a few seeping gaskets. ALL typical used car things that ineveitlybly turn up anyways. We agreed on $4,000. Flew out, showed up, seller said that on the ride over (I was flying) that a chip in the windshield spread.. Ok, fine, drove it, looked it over, loved it. Asked for $100 off, he agreed. Signed sealed delivered.

First thing next morning, get tires put on (discount tire direct flamingo street las vegas was AWESOME)

5 Hours into the trip... Starts raining/hailing... So I slow down. Hail goes from pea size to ping pong ball sized... I say screw this, hazzards on, pull over completely off the breakdown lane (truck parked completely in the ditch). Lights and flashers are on.KABOOM!!!

Rear ended by a jeep XJ. Front of the jeep exloded, no longer existed between the pass side bumper and front door. Roof bucked significantly. Driver claims he was "only doing 35" and lost control.

SO.... I'm in St. George Utah for a bit till the insurance companys figure this out...

$500 for anyone who finds a dodge dakota 4wd v6 quad cab stickshift with less than 160k miles within 500 miles of St George Utah.

Necks strained pretty bad. Right side ring and pinkey numb, dr said 2 weeks -6 months before it will go away. Backs really sore...

Yeah, I have a plan to get home and everything, the details of everything im working on, dont need help with that. $500 for someone to find me a truck.

I wasnt expecting this kind of story. Yes, I put insurance on it. Yes, the other driver has insurance. No, I didnt yell or scream at him or hit him. Was increadably dazed and lost for a few min after the crahs. The rear window is blown out from the box hitting it. box is touching the cab. Loooks like the frame's bent but I couldnt look at it. The rust is from jeep parts... Hoping I'm treated fairly.

OH and my bags with my crap were in the back of the cab, and by the time I had arranged for a taxi and help to get my crap together, the stuff was soaked. Great...

Least the hotel I'm at is nice (hilton)

Pinched nurves between c8 and l1 causing numbness and tingling in my right pinkey and ring finger. Not able to do advanced imaging out here short notice. Might be a bulging disk that requires surgery which is really scary... Back and neck just kill. On percocet flexeril and steroids to try and help.

Still in Utah trying to relax and recover. Hoping to fly out tomorrow, but honestly it sounds like it's gonna be painful. Ugh, why me? Did everything right... Pulled over, lights and flashers on... Completely off the roadway...

The wrecker driver said they took him away in cuffs after a drug dog went nuts on his jeepette... Wonderful, he was probably high at a kite...

So... Yeah... Thats nice...

Geeeeeez.......I hate to read about this. I always just have the vehicle shipped to me, versus going to pick it up. That's just awful to have happened. Good luck with it all.

That's why I'm not buying used MBs from Florida, T. In defense of the ones I've been shopping, I've found some real cream puffs in Fort Myers, FL. I just can't pull the trigger on Fla. cars. Thx for the heads-up months ago!

In case anyone's following my stories still, I made it home today. Compleate agony for the flight takoff and landing plus turbulance. I had family pick me up at the airport to my house.

Total out of pocket expenses for hotel, airfare, food, and medications $1700 or so

Medical bills TBD, but a 45 min ambulance ride, extraction from vehicle (drivers doors wouldnt open, so they took me out from the pass side), x-ray, ct, 2 Emergancy Dept visits and one neck and spine specalist.... Definetly going to burn a hole in that $10,000 medical payments part of my insurance. Utah is a no fault state apparently, but he was given a ticket, so I have no clue how that works.

Happy to be home.

Update.

They made the first offer today on the truck. Not even enough to cover what I paid for it. "actual cash value, not intended to account for replacement costs"

I'm beyond furious...

Wrote a note saying it was 100% their insureds fault, and I dont think it's right that I get anything less than enough to get a similar model truck with similar options, miles, and accessories.

The topper was around $1400, was only 3 years old, leer 700 series... Exhaust was $500 or so last year. Tires were $550, 3 hours before the crash...

Ugh!

Yeah, no kidding. Quite a deal on it, worked really hard to get him on that price, doubtful I'll get anything near what a comperable one costs, but I'll hold out for the most I can get. There's an 04 with 120k on it one owner out in CA, but, no towing package, smokers vehicle, no flowmaster exhaust and no history of the clutch being replaced for $8500...

Everything else is between 7k and 9k. That one stands out, but I doubt I'll get enough to buy it.

Awesome... Still in pain, living on percocets (absolute hell on your digestive system) and flexeril...

Had an MRI this morning...

Shows that the crash herniated a disk in my neck... The brain and spine institute doctors think that with physical therapy it should go back to normal, in a few months... Yeah, wonderful.

My insurance is picking up the bills currently, and going after the other insurance company for them, so my bills get paid timley. I'm also going to be going to the VA for treatment as well, so they wont bill me for treatment either... Still going to be a while before I'm back to normal again...

ugh

If your neck problems continue consider Dr. Jho in Pittsburgh. I flew there to have him fix my herniated disc. Worked out very well. He has an innovative surgery which doesn't involve fusion.

Hmmm. Any links or info on this? I have a deformed vertebrae and have been told there are no solutions. I even went to mayo clinic in Arizona.
