Anyone follow the hilarious Doug DeMuro on Jalopnik?

Pretty amusing stuff. He bought a 2006 Range Rover from carmax because he realized he could take advantage of them with an extended warranty covering the truck with "durability of tissue paper" for 5 years and up to 125,000 miles

In 2 years, he's already exceeded the original warranty cost by thousands. Rather than get angry when the car breaks, you're hoping it does so you get your money's worth.

My Air Suspension Failed (Again): Another CarMax Warranty Update

He's posted other columns listing 5 cars in their current inventory that you can destroy their profits by purchasing an extended warranty. Cars like a Mercedes S65, Audi R8, Jaguar XJ Supercharged.

A Different Kind of Christmas List: 7 Best Unreliable CarMax Cars

Then comes his Ferrari 360 ownership experience, but his best article came when it was time to sell it. Being a used car dealer for 4 years I really found the humor and sympathized with that post.

The Hardest Part Of Owning A Ferrari Is Selling It

Along with his other articles, there's a weekly ask Doug column where he answers car questions, all are fun to read.

I have followed him a bit, just watched his PT cruiser escapade today. I think he is in my neck of the woods now, I'll have to keep my eyes out in center city for a bright yellow hummer.

Actually, his style of writing is awfully similar to Dave Barry, if you remember him. I love DeMuro's work - he's great to read.

That was a pretty epic story and the description of the E500board folks was hilarious.

Indeed it was . Here it is:

And I swooped in and GRABBED IT! Quickly, the 500E forum turned on me in the way that only a forum full of 65-year-old men can: with rampant misuse of the "QUOTE" function. I stopped posting almost immediately.
Another good line from that article (not related to the 500E board):

Great auto writer for the internet/auto-blogs age.

I enjoyed his series about Ferrari ownership. Ditto with the Range Rover, but he may be one reason why CARMAX made it more expensive to buy a warranty and in some cases stopped offering them (?)

Thanks Doug!!

No more '07 M5 for me!!
