She has already secured her first employment which will be starting work in the State Capitol building, clerking for a State Court of Appeals Judge. For a two year assignment. Starting pay is around $60,000.00. She's now diligently studying 7-days a week for the State BAR exam.

Skid-
$60K is fairly modest for a law grad, even if they haven't passed the bar. Please make sure your niece (or nephew) isn't selling themselves short. In CA, my bachelors degree only engineers start at around $60-$70K, and law grads would obviously make a lot more. My sister and brother-in-law are all lawyers, and I know their starting salaries out of school were $100K+, and that was many years ago. This article from 2014 states the starting salary should be $130K-$160K. https://www.forbes.com/sites/susanadams/2014/03/28/law-schools-whose-grads-make-the-highest-starting-salaries/#67b10cf633cb

For example i have a relative who went from a 200k a year job to a 65k a year job in a public defenders office. The difference is now she gets to actually be a lawyer and gets to go to trial all the time. Never looked back, fun rewarding job compared to the 200k a year job with only a benefit in the high pay, and otherwise awful

That's highly optimistic in central or south Texas and pretty much out of the question if you're talking about state employment (state judicial clerkship). Additionally, while a judicial clerkship often does not pay as well as employment at a private firm, many law grads seek them out. A clerkship can provide exposure to different types of law and to the courts system, as well as providing the law clerk the opportunity to interact with seasoned attorneys and judges. In many instances, the clerk is a state or federal employee for purposes of health benefits and pensions, as well. That said, Austin is an expensive city to live in these days; long gone are the days of plentiful $500/mo apartments near the Capitol (or Capitol complex- there are no judge's chambers in the actual Capitol building). Hopefully the transition to work will go smoothly and not disrupt bar exam prep or, better yet, that the job begins after the bar exam.
