I saw an ML 320/430 today with ML55 on the back and no ///AMG. It didnt even have AMG wheels or an exhaust, or even a bodykit. It was a standard ML.

Ted:
It went something like this: Owner did a Euro delivery on the car, some relative in Germany thought it would be a cool thing to do, so it was done in Europe, so the owner says. There really was a 400E, so it wouldn't be hard to get the emblem, it was the predecessor to the E420 124 chassis, same basic car, maybe CIS vs LH or HFM injection, but still a 124 with a 119 engine. The 400E emblem i believe would be the only "1 piece" emblem like this, after that it would have been individual letters as is done now. Easier to put on the car, but it's surprising how the 1 piece emblem stands out and looks "old fashioned" on a 210 chassis.
2 of the newer guys in the shop actually thought it WAS a "400E". Man, did i have a laugh on them! They even had the hood open! I asked them if that looks like what they would expect under the hood of a 400E. Silence. It's a 104 motor for cripes sake! I also asked if they really though the "E" should be after the displacement on a 97. Hmmmm, that made 'em think.
I couldn't convince them until I pointed out the data plate on the radiator support ID'd the car as a 210.055, a E320 with the inline 6. MAN these newer kids can be easily fooled. Hope I taught them something, at least about badge engineering.
