UK spec Jaguar S-Type

1. Hi all just got to my new station at RAF Croughton, UK it is located in the middle of Oxford, Milton Keynes and North Hampton.
2. I’ve got a question about the UK spec Jaguar S-Type I haven’t seen any with the “Jaguar Cat” statue on the hood (bonnet) like the ones in the US. From what I can see is just a round flat badge. Is this a customized thing over here or I haven’t been here long enough to see one?

When I owned my Jag, I was told the "leaping cat" was strictly an American market gimmick... that no "original" Jag would have such an animal on the hood.. mine came with badge only and I kept it that way.

The leaping cat is forbidden in the UK by our construction and use regulations. Unlike the Spirit of Ecstasy and the three-pointed star, the leaping cat cannot retract and so may be a danger to any pedestrians ran down by the Jag. It is not a US market gimmick; it used to be fitted to UK Jags a long time ago, but these regs have been around a long time. Bit of a shame, really.

I must add, I think the S-Type has matured into a fine looking car. Hope you enjoy your stint stationed in the UK.

jjrodger,

1. I guess you’re right I went to the Jaguar UK site and they do come without the leaping cat as the standard. I wonder if they make us GI’s who import the US spec version take them off for the MOT. This will be a good thing to add for the incoming troop briefings.
2. Another thing I like for you to reply (if you like) was my other post about the UK, not sure if you have seen it but could you take a look and give me some pointers: In the UK

I've replied to your other post!

I think you can leave the leaping cat on your car in the UK without too many problems. Some people stick all kinds of strange mascots on their cars. If you run someone down and it rips off their testicles then you might be in trouble!

1. I like your Queen’s English; I forgot to let youall know my wife is British so I understand.
2. It was hard at first could you imagine when I found out what “fanny” means in British English… and at the same time my wife learn what it was in American English, now I make it a point to me lads at work during our briefings “When she say fanny she means…”
3. My first English was the Queen’s English, because a lot of Thai wards comes from it…

Bear,

Id have to agree with you there. Talking of the american word Fanny. Remember in the 80's and early 90's when Bum Bags were all the rage.......i heard them referred to as Fanny Packs in the states. Being about 12-14 years old at the time, this was considered a bit risque and bloody hilarious!!!!!

Hahaha...Tell me now...if a pedestrian is struck by a speeding Jag, isn't the damned hood ornament the LEAST of his worries?! What a silly regulation!

Mike, look at it this way, if you get struck by a UK Spec jag doing 20 MPH, you are going to have a few broken bones, but when you hit the hood you are going to slide off.

Now replace it with a US spec jag, with the leaping cat on the hood. You get hit with that, and not only are you going to have a few broken bones, the cat is going to make a nice job of ripping you in half as you impale yourself on it..........

need i say more?

Mike

sorry to be grim and all that, but thats the view that the British Government and car makers took a few years back.........which is strange as its the only thing i can think of that the Government has been involved in that actually makes sense!!!!

ps, tip of the day, try not to get hit by any car!!!!!!
