No link, but going on memory I seem to recall someone once wrote into an old car magazine and asked about the Dodge. It seems there was a custom run by an aftermarket company of these bodies for larger customers like the military, the Interior Department and some oil companies.
I think the International was also an Interior department thing in that International was so small and the order was so big the company was able to do it and make money on it. But I think the thrust of the question is: When was the first production truck offered where the average slob could walk into a dealer and buy one off the lot. |

VW introduced the 'Double Cab Pickup' in November of 1958. This is nothing but a VW van with the crew cab, three-door body, but it was a true crew cab and was factory built.
Earlier versions were custom built by a German coach builder and not the VW factory. |
