Delivery drivers carrying no cash...
I noticed this for the second time last night. Ordered a pizza total was $19.80, gave the guy two $20's because all I had were $20's and asked for $15 back. Figured $5 was a solid tip for a 1 mile delivery, heck when I used to deliver for a deli in HS I didn't get that half of the time.
The guy had no change for a $20, so I took my $20 back I'm not giving him a $20 tip. Do they figure that most people especially after a couple of drinks would just say keep it? Or do people charge everything these days and they don't deal with cash enough? I don't consider a $20 a big bill, I don't even get $100's from the bank anymore because no one likes taking them. Now if I tried to pay the guy with a $100 I'd understand. But it seems until recently these guys always had a wad and could make change from a $100 if need be. I felt bad for the guy I have been their, but not bad enough to give him a $20 tip!

I would assume that it's the fear of being robbed. Similar to those stickers you see on some delivery vans, "Driver carries no cash".

But he did have cash after the delivery. He didn't even own his personal wallet? He screwed himself out of $5 by not making change.
He and the joynt are perfectly withing their rights to say exact change required and then it is your problem to pay the bill with what you have, but that still leaves him in the lurch for the tip if it comes down to it. There is always small bills around here somewhere so it is never an issue. |

I typically see signs saying the driver carries no more than $20 cash (because of robberies), presumably that $20 is to make change and is all 5s and 1s but I guess not. Lots of folks just order and pay online these days anyways -- usually what I do. No cash needed.

Back in the times of cash, a seasoned bartender would would always keep giving you change in singles if paying from a ten, and then a two fives and singles if from a twenty.

I think its simply so many people pay with CC these days they don't know what to do with cash. More and more lately I get looked at sideways paying with cash.
