Talking Showed Rice Whats fast!

OK OK I KNOW I'm Going to hear about this but o well. Saturday night I was on my way home on I-4 Doing normal speed 75-80 And some guy in a Honda merges on and for no reason turns on his dome light and flips me off. The car had the coffe can neons etc. He is looking at me it the Caravan and kinda snickering so I shut off the a/c and stomped on it being there was no one on the road and laughed all the way home because at 105 he slowed down and backed way off. Feeling the shame of a mini van beating him. Just figured I would share
O ya it drove great

Dan,

I am proud to know that you averted yet another possible scenario of Road Rage (at least you didn't flip him off back!)

Yeah, most of these rice cars are totally all show no go. It takes so much money to actually make one of those things truly fast. So most boys blow their McDonalds paycheck on a 15 tier wing and a Folgers can so they can impress all their little friends. This one kid in my town has a bone stock Civic, hubcaps and all, except with one of those huuuuuge wings protruding a good 2 feet off his trunk lid.....truly laughable. Makes me wonder what is going through their heads.

That looks like the base model too! Don't those have a less powerful engine than the top of the line caravan? Like an iron pushrod 3.1 V6 or something?? Whereas the better ones have a 3.8? Not quite up to par on my minivan stats The fact that it was the "cheaper" motor makes this even more incredible!

How do you decrease power by adding a K&N and an exhaust? Also, suspension wouldn't have much to do with straightline highway speeds would it? More for going around corners and drag launches, right?

You make good points, I must say that I agree with you for the most part. Like I said earlier, all show no go. So are you saying that when K&N advertises one of their intake kits (not the filter, the whole shabang) and say +10-15HP!! or whatever it is, they are full of it? Most of the time kits like that come with a box or partitions to block the hot engine air. Does your claim only hold true for rice burners or all cars? I agree with most of what you said regarding suspension and all that, but I have trouble believing that intakes and exhausts, decrease HP on the vast majority of cars. Yes, it does take a lot more than that to make a rice car truly fast, but it surely couldn't hurt one. Engineers have to design cars to meet certain noise standards, which would include intake noise and exhaust noise. It only makes sense to me, if an engine "breathes" better that HP will go up. I respect your opinion, but it goes against everything I have ever heard or read as an avid car nut.

you guys are missing the point about K&N filters completely. it's the stickers that you get to put on the airbox that add all the horsepower!:p

Any gains made fom the added airflow of a K&N are lost due to positioning. Instead of sucking in cool air from behind the headlight (typically), they suck in hot air from above the engine. Obviously hot air is bad due to density and other factors.

Dan's Caravan has a 3.3 liter V-6, with either 155 or 180 hp (depends on the year) and a lot of torque.

I wouldn't be surprised at a six-cylinder minivan dusting a ricer from a roll-on. Just imagine a 3.5 liter Odyssey with 240 HP and 5-speed auto tranny. Civic killer and family hauler!

Oh yeah, the 300TE / E320 wagon will do the same thing.
What am I smoking?
