Greetings from 13,286 in a Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited

Fantastic day. Took a trail up peak 10 in Breckenridge to the summit at 13,286 feet. This is a very rough "road" used to service an old weather station. I was well above the tree line with some snow on the ground. The trail near the ski lifts at the base of the mountain. The first part is very easy and fun while following the ski slopes. It gets a lot more challenging once you get above the ski areas. It was no problem for the Jeep, with the exception of a brake warning light once I started down from 13k feet. Thankfully the light went out and I never had a problem. Incredible views.

I could spend a lot more time like that. Had a book about jeep trails in Colorado and some maps, a gazetteer. Spent a bunch of time around Ouray, Telluride and Silverton. Black Bear Pass was the most memorable. High pucker factor.

I'd say that building is just about due for a new roof.

I got a 97 wrangler on a horsetrade a few months ago. Haven't been able to muster any enthusiasm for it here on the suburban gulf coast. If I were out there I could have a blast with it. It's just another farm car, ho hum.

Lovely excursion and the Jeep is well suited for the environment. I usually get into the high country during the summer; mostly by foot, but wasn't able to this year due to other commitments. Sigh.

Thanks for the post!

That would be fun if I had some young strong men along in case of trouble!

There is an even cooler high country trail--that winds thru govt property-leased to a welfare rancher that goes down into Telluride, its spectacular!

I bet you are referring to Bear Pass or Black Bear Pass. It is a great experience. This is in the area I mentioned before. Ouray, Silverton, Telluride, tourist pricing sucks.

Durango has a great breakfast joint.

The ranchers boys love to intimidate the jeepsters passin thru I hear,
every welfare rancher automatically uses the word bought when he only leases the rights for his cows to nibble on the grass-and Nothing More.
