Cool! and kitty wasn't even trying.

I’ve seen local cougars do similar feats.

They are also very strong swimmers.

I'm a little skeptical at the distance estimate of 30', by the looks of it. People can jump nearly 30' though with a full head of steam.

Not so sure. I've watched one of our cats jump nearly 20 feet with ease from standing so a big one like that I might well believe could make 30. Also it appears to leaping diagonally rather than directly across the canal which would increase the length of the jump.

The article appears in a local publication, seemingly reported by local journalists who got the info and video from the people who witnessed the event. The report says "30 feet wide".

People who watch the video seem to know otherwise apparently just on their say so alone as neither of them have explained exactly what information leads then to dispute the original reporting. Maybe they know better than the people that witnessed and reported what happened?

Just commenting on the appearance to me. I'm guessing the reporter did not get down and put a tape measure across the canal.

Whatever the actual distance the cat does it with astonishing ease.
