Rotting 'yard find' Aston Martin DB4 worth a fortune
"A car that’s spent the past half-century as a lawn ornament could be worth a half-million dollars.
The 1962 Aston Martin DB4 has been rotting away on a Massachusetts property since it was brought there from California by its second owner in the 1970s, according to Worldwide Auctioneers. Trees grew around it as it settled into the soil and its engine bay filled up with leaves and weeds over the years. One of just 1,113 DB4s produced, the four-seat coupe is largely original, save for the new engine and paint job it appears to have picked up prior to its trip east. There's a '64 Falcon out there somewhere, just waiting to be discovered.

The frame on that Aston might be rusted away. i suspect its aluminum body since there is no rust showing. the frame will be steel though.

The body should be aluminum. Tubular steel frame. Aluminum doesn't rust, but it suffers its own for of corrosion, and will become hard and embrittled with this sort of exposure. Should make for a very expensive restoration, but auction prices arecsky high.

Oops...I thought it was a DB2. DB4 had a pressed steel frame with aluminum bodywork.

For instance Mercedes. There is a VIN plate on the radiator support but that is just there to make it easy to read. The real VIN in a lot of cases is stamped on the cowl. And from that cowl you could build a car. I don't think a lot of W110's are going to be built around a cowl, but I do know someone who is doing just that with a 280Se Coupe that was in a flood. The car was trashed (and I mean flood car trashed) but they are betting that when they finish with it no one will care about the salvage title. |
