Getting ready to welcome new grandchild to the world.

I'm in the process of packing my bags, in preparation of meeting and welcoming my newest grandchild to the world. My daughter in PA will have labor induced on Tuesday, and Reygan Jo will be born likely sooner than that. I just got a call from my wife, who is there to help prepare and sanitize the home for the new baby. She told me that my daughter is in the beginning waves of labor...nothing to be worried about yet due to the length of time between contraction. If she's anything like her birth mom, like she generally is, this will be a lengthy ordeal and likely end in C-section.

I've got one more load of laundry to get done before I can finish packing...then I have to help my mother get her bags packed, as she's coming with me to PA.

My daughter wasn't alive until 1996, but grew up listening to speeches that President Ronald Reagan gave through his time in office. My wife and I used to pull them up online and listen to them, since his voice, to us, was a calm in the storm of the end of the Cold War. My kids listened to them with us, and he made a huge impression on her...which is where the first name comes from. The middle name comes from my mom. It's a name that came from her mom, and has seemed to stick for a few generations, as my cousin has the same middle name. LOL

Anyway, as soon as she's here and I have pictures, I will post the obligatory photos of the tax deduction my child will soon enjoy.

This will also be my mother's first ride in a lifted 4x4 since my dad's 1978 F250 and 1976 F150 Highboy. She used to drive the Highboy when I was a kid...351M with deep crawl first gear 4sp trans. She could gear grind with the best of them, and used to follow dad in his 78 through some rather tough terrain...just for fun. She's now 72, stands 5' on a good day, and can't wait for her ride in the truck...even though it's not as high as what she used to drive.

Being raised by a mom from Alabama, a dad from Eastern KY, and a set of grandparents from VA, we have many stories like above. I share the stories with my grandchildren as often as I can, and hope that they sink in and show just how important it was for us to do things together as a family...sticking together, loving each other, sharing our bounty with each other, and caring for each other has spanned multiple generations of our bloodline.

I can't wait to hold Reygan Jo...we've already decided to nickname her Ronnie Jo.

Wish us luck, and keep the family in your thoughts and prayers, please.

Congratulations! I have nine and there will be no more. I understand why they’re called “Grand.”

Thumbs up The Wee Ones

Cool .

I was doing bills this afternoon and my great grandson Kai came and crawled up on the chair next to me and asked for carrots please ~ I try to always keep a bag of fresh pre cut carrots for him to snack on .

After a while he leaned against me and dozed off .

Two of our four daughters decided not to have children. At times I wonder now if they regret it. We as their parents do.

The physical distance between grandparents today and their children and grandchildren. Can be substantial. Some of our contemporaries are travelling often to stay in contact. For some it even involves going to other countries.

As someone mentioned and it is very true. Grandchildren are easy.

That is priceless!

I am fortunate enough to have 11 of my 14 grandchildren within walking distance. Yesterday my son came by with his three sons and we all went on an hour or so walk. This week their schools are closed for an extra week tacked onto their spring break....with a wait and see for after that.

I have one daughter with her three kids across the creek from us with a foot bridge between us. Another is a little less than two hours away with four and another a little over five hours away by car, but much less than two hours away in the Mooney, and they have two. A good reason to keep the Mooney airworthy.
