Is This the Most Valuable Car in the World?
"One of the most coveted cars in the world lost its driver this week when Atlanta millionaire Preston Henn, a flea-market magnate and racing aficionado, died at age 86.
Make no mistake, the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale could well be the Ferrari, the most rare and storied specimen from a brand built on scarcity and lore. It may also be the world’s first car to break the $100 million mark, provided it finds its way to the auction block." https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-05-03/is-this-the-most-valuable-car-in-the-world

Looks like a great
blue chip investment. I don't know its racing history. It would have to have won some of the big ones I think to match a GTO in value. But, what do I know? I'm just a guy sitting here in the dark in my underwear feeding pretzels to myself and my dog. ![]()

I know I am thinking like a poor person but I do not know I would buy it even if I could. I believe cars were made to be driven not put on a pedestal and admired. If I wake up one day and find a perfectly restored '63 split window in my garage, I'm going to drive the wheels off that thing. Same goes for a Gullwing, Cuda, Cobra, Countach (OK may be not that one because I am 6'3" and can't fit ... damn short Italians). That is why I like Jay Leno, he actually will drive ALL of his cars regardless of how valuable. I can respect that. Can't afford it .. but I can respect it.

Yes. A couple of gt 250 pf coupes like mine have sold in the last few years for over a mil.
Wish I still had it, but when I sold it I got a market value price which was a fraction of a mil. I was happy to get it since it was more than ten times what I paid for it. I did invest some money into it though so it was not all profit. Although it appears to be a logical derivation of the iconic 250 GTO I don't see it bringing more than a GTO, but I don't know the history of it. If the history was good enough, its possible. I'm not aware of a significant racing history on this car. Besides WTF, its not even red! (just kidding).

I am so old that I am seeing cars like I once owned in auto museums.
I am so old that I have even pointed out errors in the histories of the cars in such museums. This is because I owned and drove cars like them and knew the true history behind some of the weirder aspects of them. But all in all for driving I like newer cars. Still..... I recently drove a Nissan Altima 1,700 miles. It was nice. It got 35 mpg. But it still is not as comfortable for the long haul as a 1977 240d, or even your average 114. But back to collector cars..... I know a number of people who buy cars they think are valuable and sock them away. They remind me of Mr. Burns; they possess a treasure that is theirs alone. And then there are guys like Leno who understand that ownership is just a small part of possessing the car. It is experiencing the car that is important, and that can only be achieved through driving or repairing. Few of us actually get to touch history. |

'I'm just a guy sitting here in the dark in my underwear feeding pretzels to myself and my dog. '
Who says a dog can't teach an old guy new tricks? Now to the car, don't know what it will fetch. Crazy money. I think one of the last Ferrari on the block was close to 50 mil. This seems to have racing pedigree. Not sure as to being the most rare car or Ferrari. It said three of these, and a special model off the same designation. There was the Le Tigre. An MG sized prototype. Someone said they had it out in Tulsa. Kind of a lost car. Also, as to rarity, think of the Bugatti Royals. 8 built, 7 left and all different. Still, in this collector market, I think Ferrari and Dodge are crazy prices. While other cars equally rare and in the same market niche at the time are 1/10th or less. |

That car is almost a copy of mine. The red was lighter in mine but the interior was about the same. The bumper guards are even bent back like mine were. This car has side markers which mine did not and it has the 15" rims vs 16" on mine and it will have disc brakes instead of the 14" x 2" drums. Also will have four speed with overdrive and the outside plug engine.
Here are a few pics of mine. It was a well made car with a boatload of handmade stuff in it. It used some things from other mfgrs including window winders and door latches, vent windows and outside mirrors, switches and so forth. Castings like the heads and such exhibited a load of hand work. It was very well constructed but fairly susceptible to rust like most cars in 1959.
