Talking Chevy Silverado vs Ram review...

This forums dull, lets stir it up a bit.

So I traded my custom ordered 2015 Ram 1500 for a Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ last month, why?

2015 Ram 1500, traded with 32k miles on it, over 10 days at the dealer!
This freaken truck would spend days in the dealer for little electrical issues! Or they would fix it and the CE light would come on the next day. If not for my uncle who gave me pretty much free use of his 2016 BMW 428I convertible I'd be out of a vehicle and pretty annoyed. FCA customer service and dealer service are so sub par its insane.

Another thing that annoyed me is that the body panels were so thin you dented them touching them. My hood had a dent from closing it...

Lastly after 30k it rattled worse than a 300k mile Mercedes, what a POS going down the road, and it leaked water when it rained which was cool.

The truck pissed me off because I special ordered it exactly the way I wanted, it took 8 weeks to build... I fully intended to keep it for 10-15 years if not 20.

Well the Ram didn't work out, I bought it for $32k and sold it to Carmax for $20k two years later needing tires. They sold it with new tires for $24k pretty fast, good luck to the new owner. I had two people I know who wanted to buy it I told them no.

Now on to some good trucks!

I replaced the Ram with a fully loaded Silverado LTZ, every freaken option except back up sensors which I didn't realize until I took delivery. Next time I'll get a High Country.

The Chevy is a ****en amazing truck, I can't get over how good it is.

So the moral of the story is Dodge/Ram sucks, buy a GM.

Gas engine in the dodge?

I just traded my 03 Ram with cummins on an 08 with same stuff. I never had any of the troubles you mention. The ac was very weak though. The 08 AC is twice as good and will run you out when its 100 outside. I paid $30K for the 03 new. The 08 I paid 28K for with 15K miles on it.

They took my 03 (silver) in trade for 10K with 210K on it and switched my new michelin tires and the aluminum wheels to the 08 (white).

So far it is very good. I think the fuel gauge is off though as it seems to run out of fuel with a quarter of a tank.

I miss that ugly flat bed though.

Newer trucks overall quality may be less. All kinds of problems out there waiting to appear on many of the newest vehicles I suspect.

For example If their now very extensive electrical systems prove problematic could become a serious issue. The component suppliers for some new trucks have now rotated to China. China can build good or bad. I do not know the current percentage of Chinese supplied parts in the big three trucks. It is probably growing all the time.

Fix It Again Tony.....

If you really want to stir things up, why don't we discuss what kind of oil you use in said truck....

From the perspective of the level of electrical amenities, the average late-model pickup truck would shame a fully-loaded Cadillac from a few decades ago. Couple that complexity with emission control systems, ECMs, PCMs, ABS, etc., and it's a miracle that the average late-model vehicle doesn't instantly burst into flames when the battery is hooked up.

The dodge rams -just one example had the weird alternator problem going back to the 93-o3 bodystyle, when the battery got too low you had to boost it and drive it for at leat an hour to recharge, then there was the ac glitch problem with the -03 ups my buddy wouldn't deal with--some $1100 part just to get the ac working again~ but that sure was a burly looking pickup.............

on the other hand Gm didn't make a pickup that looked worth a damn since 02, and a reliable engine since at the latest 2007 (on certain ones) then the went all DOD ~~ and it gave em so much problems the marketing people changed the name to active fuel management,,
the only GM vehicles not equipped with dod were manual transmission cars, vans, I don't know if you could still order a HD truck with a 5 speed manual

people with new trucks are still dealing with the cyinder deactivation selonoids going bad causing their cams to go bad, I was thinking a 2009 aluminum 330 horse lc9 would make a great engine to build... I had read you could just rip the dod stuff out, then I found out it costs more for that kit than what the block cost me and the other kit to remove the VVT cost another $250. I sold the lc9 (at a profit) and switched to the L33's The guy who bought it --his 2010 AFM had wiped out the engine.........
Still having the same damn dilemma 4 yrs after they introduced the cyl cutout scheme,
I have heard the direct injected engines are also still suffering the problem.

But im still tempted to get my hands on an aluminum L92 6.2 and remove the AFM .

I didn't exactly change brands of trucks but just upgraded my old Silverado.

Had a '03 Z71 Single cab with 204k. Very sharp truck, owned 4 years and never had much trouble out of it except the alternator. Worst thing about it was a water leak on the driver floor board after heavy and constant storms I couldn't seem to find the source of.

In June, after months of looking at the new Silverado's online and drooling over them I drove to a dealer South of Huntsville to look and eventually traded the '03 in for a new one. I had been wanting something with more cab space, although I'm a single guy I wanted to be able to have the ability to haul more people around if needed so I opted for the Crew Cab model. Got the LT trim, just about fully loaded including Leather and the LT plus package which includes power sliding rear window, back up sensors, integrated garage opener and adjustable pedals. I added step bars at the dealer as being 5'4 I need a little 'assistance' on getting in

Other add ons I've done include: spray in bedliner, black bow ties, hood and window vent visors, rear mud flaps, rear under seat storage box and I just ordered a peragon truck bed cover for it.

Only thing I'm not happy with on the new truck is that it doesn't have blind spot assist on it while my brother's '17 Cruze does have it.

You replaced one overpriced, over optioned, over sized, under useful, ineefficient codpiece with another that has a different symbol on it.

5 monopoly dollars you are tired of this one within 5 years. You did say you wanted to stir things up a little.

Those Silverados are very nice and I looked long and hard at one before I settled on my F150. I thought the seats in the F150 were much more comfortable and the 2.7TT puts a smile on my face every time I mash the skinny pedal. My only complaint with the EcoBoost is you only get Eco or Boost. Not both at the same time.
