I'm looking at this microphone; it says it will connect to a video camera. I'm wondering if it would connect directly to a recording device. My neighbor's dogs have gotten out of control, they are knocking the nails out of the fence and bark day and night.

Why even bother? Wackos on drugs will steal it, sell it to the cops who will shoot the dogs anyways, who will then be vaporized and transmitted overhead by aerial nozzles mounted to civilian aircraft (probably AA) to numb your mind.

A well placed letter from my lawyer and real estate agent should do the trick. I've spoken to one real estate agent who has a lot of experience of dealing with barking dogs. Barking dogs are house sale killers. She first approaches the offenders then if that doesn't work she goes to the city and that DOES WORK. The sale of the house depends upon it.

Do you live in a "one-party consent" state? If not, it might be illegal to record the dogs without their permission.

The majority of real estate contracts site a clause that guarantees "quiet enjoyment of the premises" which includes the right to peace and quiet. I've walked my neighborhood and have yet to come across any house that has any animals that come even close to barking at the volume level I've endured over the years. IMHO, my neighbor's dogs are the loudest dogs in the neighborhood, bar none.

I had to ask some questions about the situation of the realtor. Seems most people think they should call the police when in reality, the city is the big hammer when it comes to barking dogs. Since her real estate sales commission is predicated upon the SUCCESSFUL sale of the property, she has a vested interest in presenting the property in the best light possible.

She's dealt with many dog issues over the years and assures me this one is a no brainer.....

Right now, I need a quality outdoor microphone to record these canine cannons. I'm thinking of using a DVR to save the audio. I just wondered if anyone here might know of a quality microphone that will stand up to outdoor use........

I don't think you need their permission just do not do it without telling them first, that is how I understand it. So very simple walk up to the fence and tell the dogs that you will be recording from now on.

Thank you for all the informative replies, great advice for handling the situation. It appears I have several options available to resolve the issue. I have a difficult time understanding someone who appears to be insensitive to his neighbor's right to peace and quiet.

How Disturbed People Use Their Dog's Voice as a Weapon

Before getting all uptight and doing something you might regret (you never know, right now they could be GOOD neighbors!), find out if your area has any zoning ordinance against dog barking.

I was on the receiving end of a POS neighbor who decided that instead of complaining to me that my 9 month old dog was barking at squirrels while I was away for 30 minutes that it would be a better idea to call the police. Unbeknownst to her, there is no ordinance here against dog barking and there's nothing they can do other than ask the owner to shut their dogs up. She called twice more (still without talking to me about it first, and only while I was away) and the police gave her a cease-and-desist order to stop wasting their time.

It blows my mind that people are so uptight that they can't even talk to their neighbors anymore. Go over and ring the doorbell before flying off the handle, it may have never occurred to them that it's annoying the hell out of their neighbors.

A few months ago, one of their German Shepherds knocked a fence slat off the fence. Since I was concerned about their dogs trying to barge through the fence to get at my dogs, I attempted to install a new fence slat.

Their dogs would have none of it; I was concerned they would literally rip my hand off (two large german shepherds and a mean lab). Snce I need the use of my hands, I went over and knocked on their door to ask them if they would please bring their dogs into the house so I could make necessary repairs to the fence. Since they have no door bell, I knocked on the door. NO answer. So....knocked on the door again....still no answer. Knocked on the door a third time LOUDLY, still no answer; they would not answer the door. Their cars were in the driveway so I KNEW they were home, they simply didn't want to deal with it.

So....I waited for them to go on vacation and then managed to put up a new fence slat using wood screws. Hopefully it will hold up against their barage. Besides barking, they have knocked against the fence so hard they have knocked nails out of the fence which means I am continuously having to make repairs to the fence.

There is a city ordinanace against barking dogs; the real estate agent I have spoken with assures me that they have two choices;

1. Get their dogs under control or....
2. Face the city.

She tells me that in these instances, the city always wins.

We have been on good terms up until this mess. I have to put my dogs on a leash so they won't wander over to the fence line. My dogs hardly ever bark at anything and if I catch them barking, they are ordered to come into the house pronto. I'm trying to be part of the solution, not the problem.

I cannot have any guests over for backyard cook outs or just friendly gatherings because YOU CANNOT TALK OVER THE 150 decibal canine cannon BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK. Once I get a recording of these canine crazies, I'll post it and you'll get a feel for what I've put up with. A few years back, a utility worker came to my house to do some repairs. As soon as he heard the canine cannons, he told me, "YOU NEED TO CALL THE POLICE!!".

When my A/C guy shows up to work on the outside unit, we have to go to the front of the house just to carry on a normal conversation because we cannot hear each other talk.

One dog may be a nuisance; a wolf pack of three large dogs going blitzkrieg outta control twelve hours each and every hour of the day is another matter. The energy that sets up between Shepherds who have not had one minute of training and whose owners refuse to take them on walks for necessary exercise has to be seen and heard. The shock waves reverberate through the neighborhood each and every hour of the day. At this point, I'm concerned for my family's safety.

A this point, all we want to do is sell the house and GET THE HELL AS FAR AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE AS WE CAN. As long as these barkers are on the job, I fear that NO SANE INDIVIDUAL would consider making an offer on a house that is located in the 150 DB BARK ZONE.

My grandmother raised and trained German Sherpherds as security dogs for the United States Air Force. She and other security dog trainers say that the best security dog only barks when their is an intruder present. Non-stop barkers are NEVER taken seriously by anyone.

Kinda like a car alarm that goes off ten times a day, it gets a no-never-mind from the neighbors.

Grandma was so successful in the security dog training business she bought a brand new Cadillac each and every year of her life. I miss her and her well-trained, well-behaved dogs very much......
