Looks like I might have been wrong about being a genuine Meyers. I read once that it wasn't. But I found this article about the guy rebuilding it, the McQueen car, and they mentioned that Meyers came around and declared it an actual Meyers Manx.

But it looks different than most of them:

I still want one of these someday, Car and Driver tested one and they said it out braked and out handled any sports car they'd ever tested. That was late 60s, but still. That was with a Porsche 4 cylinder and stock VW drum brakes.

Here's the Corvair engine:

I remember reading that the Corvair powered ones did. Might almost be too much. The weight as much as the HP. I'm guessing the 4 cyl Subie weighs less and can be tweaked to serious power. I just found some info - 2.5 liter Outback 4 puts out 175 hp stock. The Corvair would be cool but I'm guessing it would be more spendy and less reliable than a Subie.

The Manx only weighs around 1200 lbs IIRC.

There's an old hot rodder I know that has a built a couple of these. He currently owns a Corvair pickup truck with a 500CI cadillac engine and a 2 door Corvair with a hopped up small block, mated to a 2 speed automatic. The engine in that car came out of his old Fiero which I got a ride in once. The thing was terrifying.

I watched him build the pickup truck. First he got the truck and I see him go around it with a tape measure. Then a 70 Eldorado convertible shows up. Next time I see him, the front end of the Eldorodo is under the Corvair.

I did a quick google search and found a video of the truck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8FScECMJW4
