Real American Muscle?

Take a look at this...

http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadtests/firstdrive/63937/article.html

$35,000 for a tarted-up Crown Victoria that won't even do a proper burnout? Ummm...no.

What's better is that a $14,000 used 400E will slaughter it in every performance category out there.

What's even better is how vehemently people defend it. As if they need to justify such a horrid waste of $35K us.

Personally, I can't wait for a Mercury Marauder kill story in "Hot-Rods" or "Performance Paddock".

I saw a preproduction model at the car show this year. I don't get it. Didn't Chevy try this with the Impala SS a few years back? I don't think the pony car guys will go for this either. Maybe they are going after the high performance taxi cab market or something.

200kmiles on a american car, thats pretty durable, but mercedes taxis go way more than that.

My friends friend, got a diesel W123, drove it for 200k miles, crashed it. Put that motor in another W123, drove it for 300k miles, crashed that one, then its in another car and its got another 200k miles. I would say that is going forever.

Benzman500, watch out for Dodge trucks and Suburbans, especially in rural areas. I dont think they have caught on =).

I have memorized headlight signatures...=)

My cousins went back to the middle east a few years ago and got pictures with a clk taxi. I want to get there and just get a few MB's and bring them back
As for the Dodge trucks and Burbans I have seen both down here but the worst has to be the Camaro because they don't stand out like the crown vic.
The police also had a corvette that was taken in a drug deal driving around giving tickets

$35K is a bit rich for what you are getting with the maraduer, but it is still an impressive machine.

The kenny brown special is about $50k, but its a supercharged 2v V8, pushing 325hp.

The crown vic platform is really a great one, and this is coming from an american car hater, who would not consider any other american car.

I owned a 1998 Crown Vic police interceptor, drove that car for about 10K miles, did absolutely nothing to it, and it ran like a scalded dog with 115K on the odo. 105K miles of that was hard PA state police use, and I think my 10K miles were just as hard, if not harder. Ran like brand new, no joke. My US model 85 500SEL would be left in the dust. Performace from 80-125 was pretty impressive. That 281 cubic inch modular V8 is an extremely reliable engine, as well as the tranny.

Anyway, if I had to buy a brand new car, or needed to buy a reliable V8 cheap? I'd be driving a crown vic.

The Caprice/Impala SS cars were fast, very fast, but IMO, they are ugly and not nearly as reliable.

BTW, my '98 would light them up, and leave a long patch of rubber.

My parents house is not even 10 minutes away from Ford Talbotville, Ontario were they make those things. I have seen the test mules out here for almost a year now. The first ones were just regular styled Grand Marquis with the twin pipes out back.

Let me tell you though, those cars will do a proper burnout, I go to St. Thomas Dragway every friday night for the street stock class shoutout and saw a new Marauder lay down a 14.89 at 95mph...not bad, car weighs over 4000lbs.

They sound like a mustang cobra !!!

IMO they are neat cars and are popular in London.

A funny thing happened friday. I had a recent high school grad riding with me for the day showing him my profesion a customer called and needed a light fixed at his home, it was not part of my normal day or normal work but he is a good customer so I did it anyway.

He has an S430 and a bad ass 89' 930. All my helper could do is stare at both of these machines.

On the way home I asked him if he learned anything he said yea......."Corvettes Suck" I laughed my ass off,

We will see what he thinks after the Modena.

I actually think thats not a horrible looking car.

With a billet grill, some different wheels, and tint, it would look pretty good.

I would think some or all Police vehicles are probably well maintained even though driven hard. The police depend on them to keep running.

Anyway, I Prefer calssic american muscle. Gimme a GTO, a 60's Vette, a Mercury Cyclone, a plymyth roadrunner, a 60's camaro, or a 60's mustang. Dodge charger(General Lee), Thats my kind of americal muscle, cars like that.

But I prefer german overall. I'd have a classic american muscle car. They are beautiful cars. What happened since then?

Alon you could buy the new GTO (looks nothing like the old one) and have a plastic car in your drive way.

Rumor has it that the next GTO will be based on this car made by Holden in Australia. A rear wheel drive 5.7 L!

New GTO
