Everybody has his own viewpoint, and mine is that today, stick shifts are only for fun. That’s it. I am not in the financial position to add a weekend fun car to my list of toys. Or, rather, I can’t justify it or get away with it; two people don’t need three cars.

Right. Well your not buying a Corvette or any two seater/track day/fun car anyway. That's the whole point of this argument.

A car with an automatic transmission requires less touching of the shift lever than a comparable car with a manual, thus lessening the possibility of transmission of the coronavirus from a contaminated shift lever to the hapless driver...

Yes, but with the first car, the transmission (of the virus) is automatic.

Yes, modern autos as compared to the same car model with a manual will net better fuel mileage thanks to computer technology. So what? I don’t drive a stick nowadays for better fuel mileage. I drive a manual because I ENJOY driving a manual.

I’ll make everyone a deal; I’ll let you drive your auto if you’ll let me have my clutch pedal.

If someone is not a customer of a product a manufacturer makes, that person has no say in what the manufacturer makes.

Maybe yours does. Mine have a solid hunk of wood or Bakelite in my 190c.

Technically you could say that every Mercedes has plywood all over the thing. Door trim, dash trim, window trim in many. With a nice veneer.

The fintails were very well built cars except for the poor rust resistance, which was pretty normal.

Basically all Mercedes have poor rust resitance. Then they slather on 2-7mm of garbage that hides any rust untill it's too late to address it. The floor drains are worthless too. So many aren't even at the lowest point. It's not so bad when they are used alot but once they break and get parked in the same place and sit its bad.
