Television should perhaps have had good quality educational channels. Enough of a following could perhaps have helped society. Had they existed over the years.

Some Utube channels are not bad. At least far better than absolutely nothing. If your going to do brake work at least do it properly.

I thought a Utube presentation by M******source as an example. Was pretty good for people starting out especially. The details are important and he covers them.

The public channels provide excellent children programs from about 7 am til about 7pm every day., and have done so for about 50 years.

OMG Larry. It's been awhile. If you weren't already a codger you sure are now. Good to see nothing's changed.

An old man who is either old fashioned or eccentric. Not that unusual a state for older guys to be in.

Good to see you’re still an irritating, and antagonizing &@$*# that still enjoys piling onto anything I write. Some things never change.

I am embarrassed to admit it, but my 7 and 9 y.o. kids love Unspeakable. I find his youtube videos to be stupid and immature, but that is exactly what my kids love. So I tolerate them watching the videos. We don't have broadcast or cable TV in our house, so this is one of the compromises. For the most part, the vids are pretty harmless. I do wish my kids didn't say "what the flip" so much (this is one of Unspeakable's common phrases), but I guess that is better than the alternative.

But on the plus side, my 7 y.o. daughter learned about hydrodipping from Unspeakable (spraying many colors of spraypaint onto water and then dipping an object through the floating paint) and we spent yesterday creating our own "art."

They had quite a laugh to learn that Unspeakable was being discussed on one of dad's boring car forums.

Smile The Question :

" What is a codger any how? "

The possible answer is : look in the mirror...... .

It certainly works for me .

I have little shame in being a Luddite .

Yes, there are many things on the boob tube that could be much worse for the kids. That’s the good news, although I don’t like the pseudo dirty phrase either. People that can’t speak without using extreme vulgarities are just too ignorant of the language to be capable of expressing themselves without it. They just need more education I suppose.

I spent three years in the Army, and I spoke GI English for quite awhile afterwards, so I am not squeaky clean on the language either. It is like getting off drugs or something. It took quite a while to eliminate it. It’s only been the last few years that I’ve managed to really clean it up.

Being an old codger probably goes with the age in most cases. We did pass through different eras. That had a major influence on us.

Hopefully we are a little wiser from the trip. Certainly they colored our lives to some extent. I know at 77 I look back occasionally. The changes my generation passed through where substantial.

It is not really arrogance on my part. Yet I find most of the young people of today seem to know little other than socializing. Believe it or not many of my generation had part time jobs when in high school for example.

I suspect I lived through a period of growth north America had never seen before or since. Perhaps of 10 to 15 years duration. Until it started to decline. .Incomes rose steadily while prices remained the same basically. Even though demand was high inflation slept.

Yes, if you stop and think about it, there is an entire generation that has never known life without cell phones, email and zillions of other things. I just wish that they still taught history to the level it was taught during my youth.

By the way Barry, the socializing is even different now. It is quite common now to see people of all ages sitting with friends or family and rather than visiting with each other they are in the head down, thumbs on iThing position texting with someone else. A different kind of socializing.

Post Kids

A good thing happened yesterday : I was talking to my 13 Y.O. Foster buy and he commented he'd like to get a job so he could have more spending money .

I talked to him bout the pros and cons of having a job at a young age .

As we were waiting for the school bus before sunup a bum came by pulling a shopping cart loaded with bags abd bags of collected deposit bottles, he nodded and said ' good morning' so we chatted with him as he slowly walked past our house, he said he'd made $28.00 in just this load , the load was at least 10' tall and easily 15' long .

I hope more children learn to set down the electronic device, my son did after a long while .
