Working on my M117 T5 transmission adaptor plate. Drilled and tapped about 16 holes in 1/2" steel plate.

That sounds like a full day's work.

Decided to get off my butt and install the ignition control for Megasquirt on my M117. Pulled the shroud, radiator, fan belts, hoses, etc. for easier access to mount the sensor and trigger wheel.

Mounted the trigger wheel to the pulley with the missing tooth in the correct offset (or so I thought). Went to re-install the pulley and got reminded of something I had forgotten. The pulley on the M117 is "keyed" to a certain position. Not an actual "key" but two of the mounting holes are offset and the pulley will only install in one position. Frick! Of course the missing tooth location as I installed it is in the wrong position. Sigh. The only good thing about my mistake is I used J-B weld epoxy to mount the wheel instead of welding it into place. Easy enough to apply heat and remove the stickum. PITA nevertheless.

Trying to stay busy in the shop 'cause the wife is beginning to make "new kitchen cabinet" noises.

Is it not raining in Arizona ? .

'Honey - dos' ~ uh, oh ~ you'd better run .

It's still raining in So. Cal., idiots are speeding up in it as usual and crashing in spectacular fashion ~ I drove to L.A. this morning and was amazed ~ cars flying off the freeway and punching holes in cinderblock retaining walls etc.....

Exclamation Crashes & Hospitals

I don't know, I always avoid that end of my old job...

I hope it's not making things harder for the C-19 folks, L.A.'s County Hospital was build in the 1930's and used to be HUGE ~ it had an entire separate building for infectious diseases , they tore it down and rebuilt it with about 1/2 the beds a few years ago in spite of a much larger population than the old one was built for....

Keep an eye on Los Angeles, I think we're bout to get hit worse than NYC .

Post Spark Plugs

I know some won't believe this but champions are crap and have been for decades .

Good to hear it's running better ! .

I need some two wheeled therapy my self .

One should always experiment with wider plug gaps until you find where you get a misfire then go down about .004" .

Few pay any attention to the details, I do and always paid close attention on my training studies .

Oddly enough my California SMOG license training was possibly the best at understanding the tuning details .

I decided to not get the license after I passed the class and was certified .

Still using and sharing tips & tricks I learned long ago .

Ive had a 1979 BMW airhead ("R65") in front of my house for the last 5 or 7 years. Its been 'alone and palely loitering' under a cover, waiting for me to not have kids or something (my oldest just turned 14...). Used to belong to my father

That bike is not in the garage, in pieces, and I'm pricing parts ($500+ for everything it needs to be 'safe'

...I may actually ride again someday soon...

I'm not sure I want to spend $500 on parts, but I think Im seeing motorcycle/scooter prices rise, and I could def. get $1000 for a running airhead, so even if I dont love this bike (I dont, its old/slow) its probably a good investment. Or the 14 year old can learn on it

two-wheeled therapy ? I like the idea...

I stopped buying champion spark plugs many years ago. Your problem in my mind if not in fact. Is there are issues with them. Enough times to avoid them. How bad? In general you could not give me a set.

NGK plugs in general are good plugs. I do not believe the gaping was the issue. Just my observation from experience. An old line company producing junk. They were early in the business so there is little excuse. One of the earliest companies in producing to sell rather than function well eventually. You cannot avoid stupid. When your bottom line becomes more important than your product.

I got an aftermarket ignition tumbler and keys in the mail today. For one of our 123s. Not impressed much with it. Again just my impressions. I may or may not use it.

Post Champion Plugs, Mini Bikes & Lock Cylinders

Cool mini bike Nate ! .

I never had one as a child, dammit .

I got my son his first Motocycle when he was 12, a 1978 Honda CT90 trail, it's still sitting in my back yard awaiting his re interest some day .

Champion plugs have a terrible rep dating back the 1970's that I know of ~ Foreign engines often use alloy cylinder heads and when the spark plug hole's thread dies, it's almost always a Champion plus they're just not long lived or good plugs .

If you run an 'A' or 'T' Model Ford you're kinda stuck .

The original Heif brand lock cylinders are still available new and well worth the price as they come matched to the rest of the locks on the car .

I installed one and it wasn't too bad, do this before the ignition locks up on you, prolly at night and in the rain, here I live in the freaking DESERT and it waited to lock up until we had some rain .

Puffing graphite into the key hole helps a lot as does not forcing it when it wants to stick .

Once you get frustrated and force it you're on borrowed time .
