No, no ~ husky man knows all being the expert of everything, just ask him .

My three year old Dell lap top fried it's main memory card, I got it fixed and am now using Windows 10 ~ it's not as different as I thought it would be .

I'm wondering if the next time a computer dies on me if I should try a Lenovo .

I tried the Apple and really didn't like it at all .

I can see me doing exactly that.

The Toughbook I used was in conjunction with aerial photography. We cut a hole in a C-182 amphib under the cargo shelf. The toughbook was tied to the camera and the airplane’s GPS. Each photo got a centerpoint (corrected offset from distance from GPS antenna To camera), roll, pitch, yaw, and I could monitor the image on the Toughbook. It was a neat set-up. I liked the computer. Never had to do an inflight reset. Tolerant of noisy power from the alternator, and had enough external disk memory to hold a lot of photos. But pricy back then. Guessing it still is.

Question So Then,

The next one should be a Toughbook or Lovano ? .

For computer dummies like me, this is a hard question .

Post O.K., Maybe Time To Buy ?.........

I've been looking at the Lenovo laptops and the lenovo laptop 17.3 inch screen seems to be decent, I see a wide variety of GB, TB and RAM available .

I don't game, period and I see no use for a touch screen .

I looked and found this, any thoughts to which one I should buy ? .

I'll prolly have to borrow the $, these things are NOT CHEAP ! :

If possible, get a computer which uses a SSD instead of a physical hard drive. Battery life is longer depending on how often the HD is having to be accessed and it will be much quicker accessing the memory.

I have a couple of old Toshiba's which I use for shop computers and the substitution of SSD's completely changed them. Went from a minute plus to load, down to about twenty five seconds. Accessing files was also much quicker. It really makes a difference when loading memory dependent applications such as a WIS/EPC type of data base.

Memory (RAM) is more important than storage (HD size). Get the most you can and also find out if you can add extra. SSD's are relatively cheap and unless you are storing video/music files 1 TB is way over-kill.

Heck, I can now make errors in half the time it took before!

Post Helpful Hints

Thanx Mike ! .

I got lost reading that linked article .

I replaced the mechanical hard drive in my old Dell and the tech said do NOT waste another dime on this unit !, the plastic was brittle and broke when he took it apart, it needs a battery as does this near antique Acer one I'm on now .

I imagine buying a used Loveno isn't wise ? .

I installed a SSD in my Win10 Dell and it runs/boots so much faster. I cloned the drive with a cheapo clone kit off Ebay. You need another PC to do the clone.

Red face Nice But.....

That kinda exceeds my computer knowledge .

This old ACER lap top is still running Windows 7 and needs a new battery to boot, I think I'll be ahead finding a new (? er ?) Lenovo one....

I've had an HP pavillion for about 4 years. It's adequate but odd things have befallen it. It won't run Google Earth for some reason. At least I can get it on my iPhone but it's not as good. Also, spell check vanished early on, tried to get it back, can't. Gmail has it's own spell check, that works, but for general web sites, such as this one, I'm on my own.

Get a MAC people. Minimal configurations and you can always instal a virtual machine if you insist on having some of the Microsoft Windows clunky stuff.

Post Apple Products

As it turns out, Apple products are not good for everyone .

I tried them and found them *very* difficult to use, I even bought a new iPhone and it was simply horrible ~ after taking it back to the Apple Store five or six times and waiting in line for an hour I put it back int he box, it's sitting somewhere new and essentially unused , trash .

I don't do music, art or videos and apparently Apple products ar great for that .

I used to have an ancient HP laptop, it worked fine until it didn't at about 15 years of age .

You just need someone patient to get you through the features of Apple's macOS and or iOS for you phone.
Once you get it, they're intuitive.
I too was a PC guy for years and never thought of a MAC to be my kind of machine. In 2008, I took the plunge and got an iMac. It's still in use by my wife and I have bought myself another one (retina 5) and it's just as stable as it gets.
At first, like you said, it felt weird and awkward. Over time, things got better, faster and a joy to work with.

My desktop is still windows, but my phone is an iPhone and my tablet is an iPad.

I was not happy transitioning from widows to the i-verse. I knew how to do things and could get actual explanations, I could access the OS, etc. Apple is basically, stay out and do things the way we want you to, and we won’t explain anything.

But after several years, I am OK with working with the Apple products on my portables. I’m retired, so I no longer need any sort of deep WP, DB, or spreadsheet packages.

I started with DOS 3.2, and always found the Apple products under powered and over priced in comparison. I’ve built my own PCs, which you can’t do with Apples, and upgraded the components I used most. My current PC still has two old HDs from prior PCs that still serve as a back up and as a repository for my photographs, music, and some old files.
