Lens replacement

My cataracts got so bad I was having double vision. So I had lens replacement surgery yesterday on one eye and next week, the other eye.

The ophthalmologist got me high as a kite on Prince Valium and Versid. That was worth a couple hundred right there. As a bonus he also replaced my old cloudy lens with a multifocal lens.

Improvement was noticeable immediately after surgery and after about 30 hours the new lens allows me to read without glasses. My far vision Is improved but still a bit fuzzy. According to the literature, full recovery and total accommodation can take six months. Essentially my brain will adapt to the lenses.

Next week I get the other eye done.

So far, highly recommended. Ask me again in 6 months.

I had that done last year. I have no complaints now except I wonder if the plastic makes it water more. Seems a lot stickier now around my eyes.

That’s one of the outcomes my doc told me—essentially a dry-eye syndrome.

Tom, the benefit is so great I’ll take dry eyes! I absolutely HATED being unable to read a measuring tape to no better than 1/8th. Now I can read 1/16th. The transformation in acuity in one effing day is phenomenal.

To be perfectly honest, I did not know how much I’d lost until I gained it back in ONE eye. I can hardly wait for the second replacement.

I told the wife that is up for having her cataracts dealt with.

If people in your time had the human decency to have put tape over their keyholes. You may not have needed this procedure now.

My yearly exam revealed mine are just starting. On my last yearly exam. So at my age we will see what wins the race.

I assume they will last the rest of your life.

Lenses will last longer than me. They don’t wear out.

Got the second eye done today. My vision with both eyes is already pretty sharp. I go for follow-up tomorrow afternoon.

Previous eye follow-up had me at better than 20/20. Hoping the same for #2.

It’s amazing.

It will take a few months for it all to heal and stabilize. What I noticed the most is clarity of colors.
