How is everyone doing?

I just realized that my 20th anniversary of joining this forum came and went! I was 15 when I started reading 17 when I joined in HS! Time flies!

Any old faces still around? This forum is a ghost town compared to what it was when I was running it.

I still haven't purchased another Mercedes, although now that I have a three car garage I probably will. The used car market is just so out of whack right now.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Still here.

Good to see you Hatty.

Texasgeezer 12-28-2022 12:34 PM

Nice read about your boat type ( Tiara 3200 ) including it's history.

Hatterasguy 12-28-2022 03:01 PM

Hey a few old faces! I actually looked at a 1992 R129 SL500 today but I think they want to much, they want $23k for it I feel like its a $15k car!

t walgamuth 12-28-2022 03:52 PM

I'm still here too, since 05.. I have a euro 124 diesel wagon and my 39 studebaker coupe express with the 83 300td motor I got from Berry Hill farm. I'm not doing much hands on any more but I read a lot of car stuff and buy and sell things..

Good to hear from you Hattie!

Tom

Congratulations on your age. It's quite rare to live so long. For me, I keep a constant goal of living about three more years.

'The current life expectancy is 75.6 for women and 70.8 for men. Out of the 7.8 billion people in the world, they are only about 316,600 — or 0.004% — centenarians living today, Iscovich reports. '

My 91 yr old mom drinks Coke Zero like they are going out of style.

Stoney 12-30-2022 10:20 AM

Been here since '07...haven't had a Benz in a few years. Retired to a Beach in St Augustine in '20. Neighbor is trying to get me to buy his 99 320.

engatwork 12-31-2022 08:44 AM

Stoney is that an E320. If the price is right and it has been taken care of/maintained buy it. You won't regret it.

Need to update the sig. The C250 but the dust in July in a read end hit and run. Car did it's job and sacrificed it's life for the Ms life. It was my turn to pick the replacement car since she picked the last two.

I found a '19 E450. So that has been added to stable. We still have the GLK 350 and it is still going strong.

Old Faces

Still here, still have my very first Mercedes too .

Tony H 01-02-2023 11:51 PM

Still here and kicking. Still have not finished my project. Too many projects and moved 3 times.

Kuan 01-03-2023 11:23 PM

I have no complaints. I just make critical observations.

ykobayashi 01-08-2023 06:54 AM

Still here! Another year to play with old MBs. My cars have been behaving these days so there isn’t as much to post.

The pandemic has been rough. It has been unsettling after seeing a lot of the regulars just stop posting. I hope they’re just working on their other cars but the forum has a funny way of just leaving things hanging after a last post.

Thanks for the roll call.

t walgamuth 01-08-2023 10:51 AM

Yes, as I age I wonder how to inform the forum I am deceased. I'll have to set up a list of passwords and such I guess. Family history shows I might make another twenty years. Yikes!

Air&Road 01-15-2023 06:06 PM

I’m still the hated conservative villain around here although I don’t post much any more. I went by my real name from 2000 until 2011. The time I spent here before my constant chastisement was most enjoyable.

I still have the ‘84 Euro 240D that I had when I first posted in 2000. The first post was asking a question about it and Donnie gave me excellent information. The car made it to 450k when I sold it to my 16 year old son for a token pric3. He wanted to see it turn a half million before he went off to college and made it. It’s a hulk now although it has some wonderful Euro parts if I ever wanted to build a cool 123 car. I have another Euro 123 that would be a good donor.

Welcome back Hat!

Hmmmm….. that statement verifies that you were indeed the harassing baiter that went by Paul before your new name.

davidmash 01-15-2023 10:20 PM

Damn, I am surprised you have not run out of nails trying to nail yourself to your hand made cross.

Haters & Lovers

Ha David ! .

I'm not sure there's any real haters here, I know I give husky man a hard time but he's dishonest and anyone gets my ire for that .

He still needs an occasional helping hand with his 300TD .

I'd never with hold help or advice just because I don't like someone .

FWIW, I too am *very* Conservative but I grasp the 'Conservative' doesn't mean dishonest etc.....

You will need: 1) More $, 2) learn to fly cars, & C) Learn to fix on flying cars :P

I am working on my "unexpected death list" for my wife that is a concise document with all pertinent financial accounts/user names/passwords, our credit freeze passwords, autopay information (utilities, etc), pension information-basically anything she would need if I pass unexpectedly. As far as where to put this information since it is sensitive-I now keep it on an encrypted, password protected external drive but I am going to copy it to 2 thumb drives(redundancy) and bury it in the yard in a weatherproof container of sorts and update them as necessary. Or get a box at the bank and give a neighbor the box number.

engatwork 01-18-2023 07:26 AM

You can also use pvc pipe fittings/pipe to put valuables in to bury them.

vwnate1 01-18-2023 08:27 PM

Buried Treasure

How to remember where to find them later ? .

Tony H 01-19-2023 02:08 AM

That's the hard part. I think there is still stuff buried at our last house!:D

engatwork 01-19-2023 07:56 AM

Have mounds of rip rap throughout the property and strategically place it under certain piles of rip rap.

barry12 01-23-2023 02:51 AM

Preparations for the inevitable are smart. I figured I could not do it after out of the box. My target is to have the person speaking at my demise. Just say god he was old.

A real issue for sometime is too many of my contemporaries are dying off or in poor health. I got married fairly young. So the combined years of suffering have really gotten up there.

I can hardly remember what it was like to be free now. Only thing I can come up with is what does not kill you makes you stronger. They do claim married guys live longer after all.

Fortunately, I have a great wife. I feel it is better and safer to insert this than not. One grandson has made her a computer guru. No way of knowing what she can access.

Getting older has issues of course. I thought I lost the wife recently. To have to work through the possible loss fortunatly did not occur.

Wife was very sick and after she got home from the hospital, She told me they claimed about 6 months to really fully recover. For sometime I was far less than certain she was even coming home .

Women can be stubborn. I had to tell her she was going to the hospital. Even if I had to call an ambulance and they had to put a straight jacket on her.

I miss regular reading from a pretty good group of guys posts. Although I do drop in to read them from time to time. Without posting myself.

I joined this site when 123s where still pretty common on the highways. I do not remember seeing even one in the last year out on the highways and I still drive a fair amount.

t walgamuth 01-24-2023 07:16 AM

There are a few around Lafayette. I saw one the other day parked but in a way that suggested it was being driven with the university here I suspect any driving around now are students.

vwnate1 01-24-2023 09:33 PM

Getting Older SUX

Yep ;

My Sweet called my Sunday night to say she'd had a bad fall, I was ready to zoom over and take her to the hospital but she demurred and after a while said all was well .

WHEW ! .

I wonder if I'll bother interviewing women after she's gone .

t walgamuth 08-14-2023 05:21 PM

Remember to ask if she has a boat. l(just kidding)

Glad she is ok now.

engatwork 08-14-2023 06:15 PM

Better yet ask her does she have a pension/retirement income:). The wife and I retired last fall and are really enjoying it.

P.C. 08-14-2023 08:55 PM

Good for you and your wife, Jim!

Retirement

Yes ~ for most of my career I watched as the old men shuffled off to sit at home and do nothing then they'd die after 1 - 1/2 years, from boredom I think .

I had never planned to retire but after two separate years in a wheelchair she insisted I retire, we had plans to travel but covid put paid to that .

She's even more afraid of water than I am so no boats .

She makes far more $ than I do but I don't want my woman to support me .

t walgamuth 08-15-2023 01:03 PM

Don't worry about that. Looks like you have earned a bit of relaxation.

Indeed I have Sir .

However, I don't want to fade away until I'm transparent or die from boredom .

As far as I can tell we're doing just fine:) .

I get to leave her alone when I work on my oldies, this gives her time to relax and so on .

Soon I'll head back and we'll go to the Senior Early Bird special.....

Life is very good :P .

C’mon, Larry! He has a sharp and acerbic sense of humor. Yours can be a little sharp sometimes too, but we still love you.

I mean, can’t we just all get along?

cmac2012 08-18-2023 10:07 PM

Hey Hat!

Brian Carlton visited me here in the land of fruits and nuts approximately 2018 or 2019. We took a spin in my SDL. He had recommended the car to me, told me it had a 6 cyl diesel advanced over the good old legendary five banger. And right he was. We went out on the Silicon Valley town a wee bit.

vwnate1 08-20-2023 11:50 AM

OM603 i6 Diesel Engine

I wish I could have gotten this engine in my W123 Coupe......

My big brother bought a W126 from a member here up North , it's a fine car, I think he was a little bit nervous when I stamped on it and quickly had it up to 100MPH without any offending sounds, noises or vibrations and it was smooth as silk at that speed too:D .

Sadly the engine let go recently and it's just sitting, I don't know why he's not getting it fixed as he has a spare OM603 engine fully dressed just sitting .

Hurricane Hillary arrived in So. Cal. before sunup today (Sunday 8.20.23) and in the foothills it's been bucketing down since 07:00 ~ I hope everyone had good wiper blades .

I'm driving my old reliable 1982 W123 240D instead of my much newer truck because comfort and safety don'tcha know  .

I just wish the A/C worked as I like dry air, cold or hot, I like my air dry .

I hope all here (& elsewhere too) are doing okay and finding life to be good .

Well did you at least ask him to clear my good name and admit the I am not him, or he is not me or whatever? Or did he swear you to secrecy?

I was wondering how Brian is doing I haven't spoken to him in years.

IDK if I'll get another W126. If I do I think it would be an AMG coupe. I'm loving my 280SE and I'm finding the parts support to be pretty good. As much as I like the R129 between the plastics and computers and Mercedes doing the NLA on a lot of parts I don't think its going to be a long term car for me. I'll see how next year goes I might sell it for an R107 or maybe a brand new SL if I can get a good lease.
