As I recall I didn't like the road noise. I ended up buying a 1971 BMW 2002 from a Houston BMW dealer that was going out of business and had marked it down about 30 percent. Loved the 2002, but had frequent water pump failures.
Agree with the comments about the BMW ' handling, road feel, and smooth engine '. I quit buying BMW's after buying my 78 Mercedes 300CD. Fun to drive and unreal reliability.

I bought that Z in 1981, so 8 years old. It was a New York car so rusted badly (though had been freshly painted to sell...), hit a couple times, and after 8 years pretty much every single component was on the brink of failure. I was 17 and just had to have a Z, I still think they are a beautiful design.
It's hard to imagine these days just how awful cars were back then. I'm sure the Z was fun fresh from the showroom (70-72 anyway), and of course your 2002 was/is a classic. But the reliability, longevity, safety, etc. of most cars back then left a lot to be desired, to put it mildly.
