McDermitt caldera

Now this is a lot of lithium, up to 120 million tonnes of lithium. Game changer? https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/lithium-volcano-battery-electric-cars-b2409045.html

If these things contain lithium then my area of Colorado is going to go through another gold rush. Those Calderas are everywhere.

Uh, everywhere but on my place, that is.

Calderas are not geologically equivalent regards mineral content. And the cited article has a glaring geology mistake.

I coincidentally drove through McDermitt about 10 years ago. My sister and her husband lived in Boise, I turned north at Winnemucca. That is some wide open country up there. Very sparsely populated. Who would’ve thought, there was a small and rough looking casino in town.

I learned how to count cards (blackjack) back in the mid 70s. It’s not hard to learn. I practiced with a little handheld calculator that would deal you a hand and pit you against the dealer of course. I came out ahead consistently. The hard part is doing it in a casino with all the distractions, the dealer moving quickly and shuffling up frequently. Not to mention four decks mute the advantage you would normally gain from a high count.

I spent a little bit of time in Reno trying it out. I could last quite a while on a small amount of cash, but I never did come out ahead. Goddamn places are a magnet for losers. It was depressing. I was there in August, The only good thing about Reno was skinny dipping in the Truckee River.

My reserve unit would go to Nevada every other year. We were about 70 miles from Reno and about 90 miles from Lake Tahoe. The dumbasses would go gambling, but save bus fare back to the base. Walking out of the casino, they'd see those games where you could win a Ferrari. "Why ride a bus back to the base when you can drive in style in a new Ferrari?"

... Hey, buddy... can I get a ride back to the base?"

"Yeah, sure... in about six hours, after I see a few shows and have a good meal. I'll pick you up here around midnight."

Those dumbasses would get pissed because I didn't cancel my shows and meal to carry them back to the base.

You mean they didn’t have a new Ferrari to drive back to the base?

About 30 years ago, was an article in the Seattle times about an old fellow who got a little bit of extra money once a year, I forget a pension bonus of some sort. Anyway, he would go to Reno and gamble. One year he won a $500,000 slot machine jackpot. The casino personnel were all over him, lavishing all kinds of stuff on him, the best room in the place, on the house! He said “I had the best women money could buy.” The woman and the gambling were not on the house. After about a week he managed to catch himself and limped out of town with $35,000. Better than nothing I guess.

A friend of mine, from Dallas, hit fifteen grand on a slot machine at the Choctaw Casino in Durant, OK. They comped him rooms and meals for about a year as they won their money back and then some.

He was very upset that he had to pay Oklahoma income tax on his winnings. That ate up five percent right there.

Anyway, a year later he was broke again. But he was happy. For one year he was treated like a high roller and he considered that his real winnings.
