I've got Zebrano too

I've got Zebrano in my 300SE, and Burlwood in my daddies 500. Personaly, I prefer the Zebrano also, except in certain angles it looks fake....

P.S. It probly is an endangered tree after Mercedes used so much of it in the last 20 years!

I have a couple of custom made rifle stocks made from Zebra wood. It really makes a beautiful stock and is quite strong. A word of caution if you plan to work with it........The dust is HIGHLY irritable to the skin and will cause a rash and SEVERE itching!! If you plan to saw, cut, or sand this wood, you need to be covered properly and either discard the clothes or have them laundered seperatly.

I've worked with Zebra Wood

I made a pen out of Zebra Wood, and did not notice any irregular iritation? Maybe it was because I was working with such a small amount?

All the wood in MB is farm grown. Which means it is renewable. They do not cut down endangered trees.

Shoot, and here I always thought Zebrano was in the same category as Corinthian Leather...

Question

Appearance-wise, what's the difference between zebrano wood and burlwood?

I'd guess I have the latter in my 123 (dark wood, almost looks fake)...

Zebrano wood has a "stripy" pattern on it, you know, kind of like a zebra's stripes.

Burl wood has a more "swirly" pattern to it.

replacement zebrano trim

Does anyone know where one can buy these pieces (other than the dealer)- especially the gear shift piece. I would like to avoid paying dealer prices if possible.

My mechanic gave me one in excellent condition for free hehe out of good will I guess.. However you can try scouting E-Bay or try those MB recyclers..

www.silverstarrecycling.com is one.
