Could anyone suggest a good( moderatly priced in a safe area) motel-hotel in Montreal area? Anyone know the name of the railroad museum or it's website that is near Montreal?

Some of these links may help:

Also, most of the 1-2 diamond AAA hotels (out of 5 possible diamonds) in the Montral area go for $85-120/night for 2 people in my tour book. Any particular area of Montreal?

And remember the Canadian dollar is weak against the U.S. dollar, so you can subtract about 35% from those prices to get the U.S. dollar equivalent.

At the current exchange rate, $100 in Canadian money equals $63.95 in U.S dollars.

Thje area around McGill University is nice, pretty much right downtown, near shopping, etc. Also the Old city is nice as well. I haven't travelled too much in Montreal, but I was there on business 2 months ago and stayed at the Holiday Inn near the University. I forget the name of the street it was on.

Thumbs up

There is an hotel with a nice view of the Olympic Stadium.
Don't remember the name of the establishment, but you can't miss it .
It's across the street from the stadium's tower section (ask for a room with a view) and change your name to Bond, James Bond. Oops wrong movie
You will love Montreal, beautifull women and good food
Don't forget to take a walk on ST-CATERINE ST.

I second the recommendation for the "vieux port" area of Montréal as well - the old port. This is also called the "old city". It's the heart of Montréal, near the waterway - absolutely beautiful part of the city. Cafés, bars everywhere, very European feel. It's not cheap though.

My fave hotels are the Chateau Versailles or the Hotel Vieux-Port. Both are downtown, both cost around $130 CDN (so about $80 US) but well worth it, IMHO.

Enjoy your stay!

P.S. Not that I would have any direct experience of course, but I hear the girls found in establishments along St. Catherine's street are second to none...

Oh, I miss my university days...

Being a Montrealer i think i may be of service. Both zeus and 420SEL are right in the places to check out, they being the old port/vieux montreal and the downtown center.

If it was my decision i would say to get a room downtown (i.e anywhere on Sherbrooke between guy and St. Laurent.) Try the Ritz-Carlton Montreal (514-842-4212) and state that you are an Alum of McGill and they will give you a discount (use my ID # 9735761), at least they used to 2 years ago. From there you'll be a street away from St. Catherines and about a 5 min taxi ride to Vieux montreal.

If you want to try some great food and see some of the most beautiful women the world has to offer (No joke) then check out St. Laurent (try Globe, Buono Notte, Cafeteria, Mediterrano, the wait staff are all stunning and the food is great). The bars and restaurants are open past 3am wit the taps open till 3am as well.

Well i hope that helps. Have a great time,oh and make sure to check out the open cafes when you get a chance.

Harv (Harvinder Rajwans, if they ask on the id)
