Carpoint 300E data

Interesting,

Carpoint.com shows that the '92 300E Engine as having "Occasional failures of the Cylinder Head Gasket, the Engine Control Systems Unit (MAS Unit) and the Electro-Hydraulic Actuator (EHA)."

Further down, where rating the Heating and AC systems says: "A periodic problem on this vehicle is failure of the Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Speed Sensor" It then goes on to explain the changeover to R124 from R12 refrigerant and costs associated.

For the '93?
Nothing but nice, green checks across the board "Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair costs."

This seems exactly the opposite (at least with the Head Gasket) issue) of our experiences here, no? Am I mistaken, or isn't it the common knowledge here the the M103 inline 6 in the '88-'92 was not prone to the headgasket weeping/failure that the M104 V6 ('93-'98) was?

I wonder where some of these places collect their data?

Regards,
- Ryan

Perhaps you looked on their "About Reliability Ratings" Page?

One other thing: the words "Mercedes-Benz" and "low repair costs" shouldn't be used in the same sentence...

Well, I don't know blaubenz, identifix sounds like a nice operation, but I wouldn't discount the membership of this forum either. We have techs here who work on hundreds of cars a year and their comments in the past mirror what I said above about MB 6 cylinder engines.

It's just interesting that Identifix says the exact opposite of what the many members (and techs) have expressed here. While we're all MB-nuts, I think we remain as a group pretty objective in our analysis of our car's reliabilty.

Heheh, actually, I'm actually surpised at how inexpensive my MB's are to maintain, esp. if you can/want do perform the basics (oil changes, brake pads, etc). But I haven't had major engine or ACC issues either. Buying parts from Fastlane alone will save you loads over the dealer prices.

- Ryan

Whe someone says "expensive" MB maintenance, it usually means they have been performing maintenance via the "inflated dealership prices".

Once joining this forum and tackling repairs myself, I can safely say that repair costs have been reduced by nearly $75%!!!
