"The W140 Ego"

Whenever I see a W140 on the road now, I look to see what type of person is driving it and it always seems to be a guy in a Armani "type" suit or professionally dressed. I just went to see the movie The Transporter and noticed they used the w140 and again, the guys were mafia or in suits and "big shot" type of people that had the w140.

Is there something about this Benz besides the size and the fact its an s-klasse that makes this the "choice" of the mafia and high class big shots?

You can fit more bodies in a W140 trunk - those things are HUGE! When I first saw the W140 on the road it seemed to me that Mercedes was going for the Rolex crowd. I never have quite gotten used to the look, always stuck me as being heavy handed. After driving one I do have respect for the car. It's very "vault" like and there are nice features like dual pane windows, thick sheet metal, generous seating - feels very overbuilt/very high quality.

Down here in LA there are all sorts of people driving around in 140s - even teenagers. I think the "big deal" types have moved onto W220s or the 7 Series BMW.

Lots of people I see driving 140 body cars are of the senior citizen persuasion, east of the mountains.

Over here? Mostly "big shots" who have yet to move on to the W220, or whatever newer luxury sedan, for whatever reason. Lots of black 140 cars with gold trim packages and tint in the Bellevue/Seattle area.

W140's are big, heavy and usually in black... maybe that's why?? LOL... :p

P.S. Hm... driving W140 does add some "virtual age" though... LOL... my friend always tease me about driving my 400SE makes me look 10 years older.... :p

The best thing of the W140 is the light steering even with 235 tires. One finger can turn the wheel while the car is stopped. Try that with anyother car. I think the quientessential e.g. of W140 ego is Peacemaker and Romeo Must Die. Peacemaker: Ill destroy a bunch of cars just because I can and Romeo Must die for its gangster hit em up style.

when working at the car wash I got a chance to drive a w140 to the back of the building once and did notice the light steering and fell in love right away especially the big instrument cluster and dash! It makes the dash of a w126 look like a civic.

UMMMMMMMM...........

I'm 16, and I drive a.........W140!! Feels like thats becoming a forbiden word on this forum. The steering is nice, but it has its flaws too. Lets try that negative camber on the front wheels!!!!! Black with gold makes me ashamed to drive an S-Class. The best thing about the W140 (besides its build quality), are its exceptional seats!!!!

I have had my 1994 S320 for about a month now. I sold my 94 C220, and I cant believe the difference. The S class is so much more than the C...of course I guess their original price tags have alot to do with it...30K for the C, 80K for the S. Mine is by no means "pimped" out, Its champagne, with the original wheels, and a modest tint.

I have noticed something since I started driving it to and from work(No Armani suit here, I work for Apple as an accountant, and go to work in sweats and my old UT Longhorn T-shirts -Lucky enough to only have to wear suits if I go out of town on business) drivers enjoy cutting me off....I dont know if anyone else gets this...I by no means am a slow driver, but it seems that at least once a day, some beat up, rusted, 1970 something car has to make it a point to pass me and then cut me off with no signal....I can almost see them snickering to themselves as they do it...and then they slow down from 80 to 60...and I have to pass them because I had been doing 75 to begin with...
