Question Be honest - do you use your blinkers?

Tonight on the way home from work, my car was almost sideswipped by a car moving into my lane. The driver never used his/her blinkers.
I've noticed that drivers who do use their blinkers are becoming the minority.
What about where you live? Do you use your blinkers?
And if you do, are you becoming the minority.
Very curious about the members outside of the U.S.

Every change I get

And I exhibit the utmost courtesey to those who do.

And as much rudeness as I can (thanks to my NY taxi driving talents) to those who don't.

There are three types of blinker theory in SoCal:

1: Don't use them at all, because they will speed up to try and cut you off, cuz everyone needs to be first, depriving you of that honor! 50% of all traffic, 100% of BMWs and Honda racer wannabes do this.

2: Turn them on AFTER you start to change lanes - that way they don't have time to speed up, and if they hit you then nobody can say you didn't signal! 40% of traffic, any SUVs not using technique #1 do this.

3: Turn them on well in advance (about 1 mile before you want to change lanes), wait till all the idiots who want to be first have sped up and passed, then change lanes when an opening appears. Don't slow down to gawk at all the idiots who passed you and ran into the tail of traffic up ahead and totalled their cars! 10% of traffic, most MBs do this, including me, for every lane change or merge. :p

Yes. It's a habbit.... Like seatbelt
Likewise, I find myself signaling at 3:00 am when I am the only car on the road.

I always use my blinkers. I don't feel safe changing lanes without them, but I do on very sparse occasions not use it.

LOL....JCE has Nailed It, for So Cal......Hat's off to You!

As for me, I signal my intentions as often as needed, for example if I am pulling out from the curb, I signal, if I can see any traffic. It's the law here, one of the cars I may see may be the Police.

If I am speeding down the road, I take control, I decide where I put my car at any given time, no need to signal. If there is traffic on the road, I can't speed.

So, most of the time I signal my intentions, offer the other driver the right of way, and go on about my happy life!

Always in city driving! I haven't driven my Jeep for weeks because my right rear signal is out. I may get off my a** and change it this weekend since we are on the subject

If I am on 75 and there is no traffic and I have been driving for hours, I may not signal changin lanes. If it is heavy traffic I will definetly signal.

This is what could happen for not signalling on the freeway......

Yup!! always signal before I change lanes.

I wonder about a lady I saw driving in rush-hour traffic on the Beltway the other day. One hand held the cell phone she was speaking into and the other hand held her masscara brush that she was applying to her eyelashes while looking into the visor mirror!!! So.... neither hand was on the steering wheel, she was speaking on the phone and wasn't even looking at the road!!

I wonder if she bothers to signal...

PS You're supposed to signal at least 100' before changing lanes-- at least in VA. (Used to be a UPS driver.)

Yes , I use my turn signals all the time, even in Parking lots where its rare to see anyone abide by any rules of the road. A funny comment I recieved back from my father-in-law one day when I was a passenger and asked him why he did'nt signal, his response "They know where I'm going". In my line of work I receive driver training every 3 years, the training has elavated itself to mainly the mindset of driving, over the last few times I've gone to the training. Any idiot can obtain a drivers license and have it for life with never having to review the rules. I'm a firm believer that everyone should have to renew their license every 5 years along with a tutored driving test. Just my opionion.

I use them.... I can't understand why ppl change lane w/out signal!?!? It's just pure stupidity...... especially those who change lane w/out signal right next to you.... and kept moving toward you even though you honked at them....

Heck yeah! I use them!

And one of my biggest pet peeves are those drivers that don't care to do so...especially when cutting over into your lane at what I consider not ample enough space!

Sometimes unfortunately, I get to watch those drivers that don't use signals for quite a ways, and have noticed that they are lacking in a variety of other driver skills and courtesies... . So maybe there is a connection...

Unfortunately, down here in Louisiana, a minority of drivers use blinkers, even when changing lanes on I 10 doing 80mph.

I saw a lady the other day not wearing a seatbelt, feeding a baby with a bottle on her lap and using a cellphone in the other hand!!

I cannot believe sometimes that people have such disregard for their own and other people's lives while driving.

YES, I always use mine because if others don't use theirs, it surprises them and the momentarily pay attention to what is going on!!

Great replies!!!!!

G-Benz, I totally agree with your comment.
Don't you all love the 4-way stop sign guessing game?
Makes you wonder how some people ever received
a driver's license.
