Digital Camera, help....please

I am new to Digital Photography.

This one is in B&W, I just to see how it shows up here.

I think I have figured out the size and compression issue.

How does it look?

Thank's Rick,

After 6 months of head banging, and reading reviews, etc. I got the Canon Powershot S30.

It has the best rating overall, for a small size 3.2 megapixel dig cam. You can shoot in auto mode, or use the controls like a high end 35mm. Good Batt life, CF storage card etc.

Best bang for the buck, I got mine at Costco.com for $449.00, and they give you an extra batt, leather case, and gig bag.

Hard to beat.

My wife and I have been looking for them as well.

We've considered the following:

1. Sony, PS9 I think with 4.0 Megapixels, 16mb storage, 6X Zoom, Shutter controls and decent user interface....$499.00 at Sony Outlet, includes USB

2. Minolta, 4.0 Megapixels, 7.8XZoom, 16mb storage, Full Shutter controls including manual, and decent user interface......$439.00 at Costco includes rechargeable batteries and USB

3. Kodak Easy Share, 4.0 Megapixels, 10X Zoom, 16mb Storage, no Shutter controls, Excellent user interface......$400.00 at Costco, Includes rechargeable batteries and USB

I'd love to hear others comments about recommended camera's.

I found the 3.0 Megapixel was a large enough format for me, something like 21" X 16" pictures in hi resolution.

The Canon S30 is small in size, yet has all the features of the big $$ dig cams.

Check out www.dcresource.com

This guy has reviewed them all, and shoots from the hip.

Check it out!

i still like the fuji finepix "slr", here's their latest, the 3800:

finepix 3800

if you don't need the bigapixels, one step down is the 2megapixel 2800. it also has 6x optical zoom which to me is one of the most important features. note that the zoom other manufacturers show is a combination of the optical X the digital zoom. the pricing is very attractive too!

Everyone,

Thanks for posting those sites, I spent half the night learning.

Joe,

Believe it or not that was also one of our choices and we actually already bought the camera. I haven't opened the box yet since I was strongly considering the Minolta. The Fuji is definitely a good deal, we recieved a free 64mb memory card for the camera with our purchase at no additional charge. The only problem I have with the Fuji is its size. It's an awkward shape and it's difficult to find a case for it. The other negative is that you can't control shutter speed so taking those night shots may prove to be difficult.

The best digital camera site

will be www.dpreview.com

And you cannot do 21"x16"(?) with 3Mega pixels. Even with 6M, you can get as far as 11x8 without resampling. Of course you can use genuine fractals to upsample, but it's never the same.
