Parallel Parking and Narrow Streets
In your opinion, what city anywhere in the world has the tightest parking spaces and do you have any tips on parallel parking in all but impossible spaces?
When I was in the old part of Athens the streets were so narrow the driver had to pull in the car's mirrors to fit the car down some of the streets. When he finally found a spot and inched the old S class sedan back and forth and had it parked in this tiny spot securely, he got out and then returned to the drivers seat saying the spot was too small and he didn't want anyone to scratch his car as he they were pulling out LOL Any of your stories, tricks, or tips would be good reading |

Do what I do. Find another parking spot. I have parallel parked one time in my life and that was for my drivers test. I am always afraid I am going to hit another car so I just find somewhere else to park.

I guess I am the odd ball...I like parallel parking since you don't have to worry about door dings.

The streets in the old part of Athens is simply not made with moving vehichles in mind. -And i drove through them sitting in a giant size turist bus..!
I have absolutely no idea how the busdriver managed to get around those corners, but he did. As for parallel parking, i find it easy. But then again, i haven't got much of a choice since most of the parking spaces in our town is like that. Freestyler

As far as parallel parking in France goes...there are some areas where you better don't apply the parking brake and leave the car in neutral because of French people tending to create a parking spot (I saw someone do that in St Tropez once...pushing cars to create more space )..
As far as sidemirrors go: power folding sidemirrors will do! greetingz,

Parallel parking tip: use the reflections in the shop windows alongside or opposite your parking space to see how far you've got before you hit the car in front or behind.

Parallel Parking........yuk
I try to avoid parallel parking whenever I can but here in Georgia, Atlanta specifically, there are more parking decks to deal with than parallel parking. I prefer to either pull through or back into a space so all I have to do is pull out and be on my way.
In reference to WOWS500's pic on horizontal parking, my Dad told this tale to me...a woman had parked almost horizontally in the parking deck one day but had also pulled in as far as she could in the space. My Dad having a dually pickup truck parked next to her, about twenty minutes later someone from security came down and asked him to move his truck. He politely stated that he was not parked improperly, as this woman was, and that it would be a minimum of two hours before he could leave his office as he was in the middle of developing photo film. Two hours later when he came out, this woman was fuming about the wait. He stated to her and the security guard agreed that she should not have parked sideways where she couldn't get out without inconveniencing others.........
