Ok so I got the w126 rustprooffed but what can I still do to prevent rusting? I wash whenever the roads are dry from salty water.

My mechanic sprays oil under the car..

In spring you can scrape the oil off and all the dirt would come down in a big bunch.

Just don't overdo it as you might start getting drips from all over the place!

I will do this soon...

Maybe you can get an air compressor and attach a tube filled with engine oil. Used engine oil should be fine. Maybe nothing from a diesel car
hehehe

good luck,

I wash my car often but from now on (since school just started the car probably won't see daylight until it's nice and sunny like today)

waxoyl supposedly is the best according to people that restore older, rust prone cars. i go through the car wash and have the undercarriage wash done a couple of times in the winter specially if there has been heavy salting on the roads. i don't know if that washes off the oil coating though...

I use Fluid Film (www.eurekafluidfilm.com). It's like waxoyl. You can get it at tractor-supply stores or farm-equipment store.

Spray oil under car; that's great. What about the environment?

OH PLEASE don't start that ridiculous debate here! This post is about RUST! There's other threads where the "enviro-nazis -vs.- the realists" fight is already in full swing.

I don't know... how much oil is sprayed? I'm sure it stays on the car. In the spring you scrape it off and dump it in a can right?

It's not the dang snow mike, it's the salt they dump on the roads. They use a LOT up Nord here. Sometimes you can't see the blacktop for the salt.

The Fluid-film stuff works very well and won't wash off. I think you can buy it in a 1 gallon size, I use it on parts that can't be painted, battery posts, electrical plugs, etc. It's available in Canada also, Benzonline, Cdn Tire probably carries it. Like Neil Young says 'Rust never sleeps'

Kuan,

I choose my battles...how someone rustproofs the bottom of thier car is SO not worth debating! I'm not sure I read the correct "inflection" into the tone of your post, so if you're just joking, then I apologize.

Kyle,

I haven't done one of those since about '88...We're WAY beyond high school, you know....

Mike
