Stop paying for terrorism.............

This is actually very true.

FYI...
GASOLINE SOLUTION!
We CAN buy gasoline that's not from Middle East.
Why didn't George W. think of this? Well, guess he can't think of everything. So, we should help him as much as we can!!!
Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us!

The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor.
An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia.
Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.
I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00 - 8/31/01):

Shell............................ 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil................ 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco......................... 62,231,000 barrels

If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Citgo................. 0 barrels
Sunoco............. 0 barrels
Conoco............. 0 barrels
Sinclair.............. 0 barrels
BP/Phillips........ 0 barrels
Hess................. 0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis. Keep this list in your car; share it with friends.
Stop paying for terrorism.............

This has made the rounds on all the BB's a couple of times already. The problem is that oil is a miscible product, so you don't REALLY know where it comes from.

Even if it were true, NOT buying oil (regardless of origin) lowers the global price of oil thereby reducing the income of the nations you propose are terrorists. So, we should all try to (1) reduce our overall oil consumption and (2) increase our domestic oil production.

Diesel Content: I think that the only way we (in the Diesel community) can individually contribute to our oil independence is to use or make biodiesel. Sure wished we had a place here in OKC I could try a tankfull.

Origins: If it weren't for all the gross statistical errors and the naïve grasp of oil industry economics exhibited here, this piece might actually have some validity.

Although the message quoted above doesn't address where (outside of the Middle East) we import oil from, many people come away from reading it with the mistaken impression that most of the USA's crude oil is imported from the Middle East. It isn't. According to the most recent figures regarding crude oil imports, only 31% of the USA's imports came from Arab OPEC countries (Algeria, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia) in January 2002. The top six countries (by percentage of total USA imports) supplying crude oil to the USA in January 2002 were:

- Saudi Arabia: 16.9%
- Mexico: 15.1%
- Canada: 15.0%
- Venezuela: 14.4%
- Iraq: 11.4%
- Nigeria: 5.9.%

Citgo................. 0 barrels

Guess where the 0 barrel companies buy there oil from?
Ans. From the companies that buy from the middle east. Simply because they don't have refineries.

You should also know that almost 1/3 of goods made in the US goes to the middle east (mostly persian gulf countries). It's not only oil, it's a lot more than that.
Peace to all the people in the world!

How about this... We all learn to make biodiesel. Its reasonably simple to do, no too expensive and no money to the middle east or the big oil companies that are more evil IMHO. RT

rw,

Do you make your own biodiesel? I've got a 190d 2.2 and wouldn't mind running it on bio. I get 40 mpg, so even at $2.50/gallon I wouldn't be killing myself.

I've visited over at the TDI forum and they have a mixed view of biodiesel. Although the folks on the TDI forum are known for having more opinions than facts, I think some of the biodiesel crowd over there have had problems with fuel system corrosion. Biodiesel is hygroscopic (like brake fluid) and will pick up moisture over time. Once this happens, you can RUST your fuel injection pump.

I already run a fuel additive to help with idle/starting/running, so I'm already paying more than the 1.60/gal that the filling station charges.
