Computer printer question
Hi Guys:
Last night a friend of mine gave me a laser printer. I tried to add it to my computer, but I can't find a corrisponding model number for it on the add printer pop-up screen. Any idea how I can add it? I don't have a set-up disk or anything. Here's what I do know about the printer: Packard Bell Model number PB 8915 Serial Number (all numbers) 10186782 Any help would be great! Thanks. |

If you can't find it...
...on the drop-down menu of printers, you may want to try using the settings for the HP LaserJet. It is very generic and when I can't find an exact match for a particular printer, I use the HP LaserJet setting and it often works.
Hopes that this helps.

Thanks, I'll try that.
There are a few choices, though, under their laser jets: Laser Jet MS Laser Jet 5/5M PS Laser Jet PS 9X Laser Jet PS Any particular one I should try? |

Don't use any of the PS (Postscript) drivers. They probably won't work for you. Go very generic, Like the HP Laserjet II or III. Also, is the PB model 9815?

I do see a setting for Laser Jet II, which I'll try. I won't be able to until later tonight, though.
Not sure what a PB is. Can I simply use the cable coming out of my Epson on the laser printer, or should I get a separate cable for it? I was thinking of simply unplugging the Epson unless I'm priniting pictures and using the laser printer for business applications which are mainly text. Thanks! |

If the HP printer drivers don't work, try the NEC ones. Packard Bell is owned by NEC.
Also, Packard Bell no longer sells in this country. Try finding drivers here: http://www.packardbell.co.uk/support/node194.asp Hope this helps. Alex

You may be able to get some help at Driverguides.com . ANd it might be nice to hook up both printers at the same time... depending on what you have open on the rear of your computer... usb, parrellel, serial, etc.....I am adding a card to my pc so I can do that.... it did not have many options when I got it.. and my other printer uses usb....

My computer doesn't offer the configuration for the LaserJet II
Okay, I finally got the thing up and running. Ashman was right about it being a LaserJet II because that's what displays when I go to print a page.
Here's the new problem: My computer doesn't give me a configuration for the LaserJet II. There is a LaserJetIII, but when printing a test page, I can see ink, but there is no pattern to it. It looks more like a Xerox copy of nothing with a little grey shade all over the page. There may be a problem with the printer as well since I've never used it before and neither had the friend that gave it to me. Anyone know of a way I can get the configuration for the LaserJet II, or any other way to get this thing working? Thanks!! |

You might just be out of toner. Shake the cartridge a little, and see if you get any improvement. Some cartridges can be refilled...might want to check into that.
Did you have any luck at the Packard-Bell site?

Thanks, Larry. I'll try that shaking the cartridge tomorrow, as people in my house are asleep and I don't want to make too much noise (glad I'm buying my own place soon!).
I did check out the Packard Bell site. It's a forum, so I posted the question over there. Hopefully that will help. Thanks again! |

Got it working!!
Uh..... sort of. I finally did print an invoice, but it was almost completely covered in black muck. Each time I'd print, the printer would get jammed. Now I know why it was given free of charge to my buddy...
It's headed for the trash. Thanks for all your help anyway!! |
