Thumbs down The ULTIMATE Dishonour . . .

From the Sun Newspaper online:

FRENCH SMEAR BRIT DEAD

Picture: TIM REEVES

By SIMON HUGHES
SICK French yobs daubed a swastika and vile anti-war slurs at a cemetery for 11,000 British troops.

The showpiece cenotaph at the graveyard in Northern France was smeared in red paint with the words: “Dig up your rubbish. It’s fouling our soil.”

Other slogans at the Etaples cemetery near Boulogne included “Death to the Yankees” and “Saddam Hussein will win and spill your blood.”

And the vandals wrote “Rosbeefs go home” — the French insult for Brits is roast-beefs. Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush were also branded war criminals.

The graffiti was discovered by a shocked gardener and spotted by around 80 visitors. It was cleaned off the same day.

Roy Hemmington — spokesman for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission — said: “We are deeply offended. This is the strongest language and most vile graffiti I have witnessed at a war graves cemetery.

“The suggestion that the bodies of soldiers who died for France should be dug up is particularly foul.”

Most soldiers buried at the cemetery were defending France at the Somme and Ypres during World War I.

Another 122 are troops who died fighting the Nazis in World War II.

Among the dead are a winner of the Victoria Cross, 217 holders of the Military Medal and 69 holders of the Military Cross.

A number had been awarded France’s top military decoration, the Legion d’Honneur.

Roy added: “Almost every British regiment has war dead here. This insults just about the entire British Army.”

Anti-British feeling has been whipped up in France since President Jacques Chirac refused to let the UN back action against Iraq.

Last night Jim Kelleher, chief clerk to the Royal Fusiliers Association, said: “No sane person would do this. It is a disgrace. I have family buried in France and if I could get my hands on whoever did this I’d bury them too.”

Jeremy Lillies, of the Royal British Legion, added: “It is distressing.”

The Sun’s Military Adviser Major-General Perkins said: “It is despicable.”

Appalled local MP Jacques Lang said: “It is an attack on the memory of the British and American soldiers who contributed to the liberation of our soil.”

Police captain Thibault Martin added: “It is sick and cowardly.”

The shocking news comes as a new poll reveals that a third of the French want SADDAM to win the war.

A massive 78 per cent of 1,000 people in the poll by French newspaper Le Monde disapproved of the Allied action.

But 16 per cent “really wish for” a Coalition victory — while 37 per cent said they would prefer one.

The US should run a campaign to collect enough $$$ to pack the Statue Of Liberty up & send over there & drop it back off to those FOOKERS !!!

I am sick & tired of hearing how the French are SO against our actions.

Does anyone remember what happened to our F-16 Falcon when we decided to go SLAM Libya ??

Again the French !!

Maybe we should invade them !!

Thumbs down Don't Be Someone Else's Fool . . .

While I appreciate and welcome intelligent, well thought out comments, and am always interested in engaging in a rational exchange of viewpoints, I happen to have a low tolerance for ignorant, immature trolling by pin heads trying to illicit negative responses from otherwise reasonable people.

I am an expert troll hunter, and well acquainted with these simpleton tactics. The "paper bag of flaming poo" left on the forum's doorstep after ringing a virtual doorbell and running away that is the signature of this kind of dolt, will not be played here the way they expect it to be. We have a no-troll tolerance policy here.

Responding to someone who is obviously soliciting hateful response by using inflammatory language is just what these kind of trolls want you to do. I suggest either ignoring them, or doing what I have chosen to do. Report it to the moderators asking them to prune the wasted bandwidth.

The administrators have been notified of this infestation, and are tracking the offending IP addresses already. So, out of respect for the real people who have responded to this thread, I will not allow it to be hi-jacked. I have asked to have the offending B.S. deleted.

The unfortunate fact is, "Open Discussion" has already been dangerously close to being closed forever because of these kind of untolerable fools "acting out". The moderators and administrators are sick and tired of it. If we all want this forum to remain, we had better take care of our problems off of the forum, and do whatever we can to help get rid of this kind of intentional "flame baiting".

Be careful people, don't just put everyone in the same bag. Though French people seem to not want war, these stupid scum bags who did this horrendous acts are not representative of the french population as a whole.
Note also that France is infested by the kind of people that saddam is, and that it could've been one of them.

But whoever it is, I hope they die. I will help kill them.

Thumbs up I Agree . . .

This is not the act representing the views of the French people at large, it is an act of some misguided punks who haven't seen the third decade of their lives.

Please re-read the original piece, and pick out the parts about the FRENCH people who were appalled by this vile act. I know many good, kind French people who are very disturbed by the strained relations between our two governments and peoples.

I know a man who left France to start a distillery in California because the was fed-up with the oppressive regulations imposed under the "Appellation Controlee" that requires that a specific wine or spirit is produced under exacting methods using specific grapes. He said to hell with that, and now uses whatever grapes he wants from vineyards in the Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino valleys, and uses his own methods to produce the finest "Cognacs" made inside or outside of the Cognac region of France.

My Physical Therapist is a Frenchman whose parents came to this country to give him the chance of a better life. He is quite successful, and a staunch American patriot. A point he was stating rather passionately today, while he was trying to dislocate my arm from it's shoulder socket. He was outraged by the story of these hooligans who desecration of American Graves he found to be unforgiveable. It might be a good idea for me not to discuss politics with him while he's working on me from now on. . .

My point of posting this material was to show just how ridiculous this all had become, and to see if anyone would read past the insult, and see the supportive comments by the French who were just as shocked and disgusted as we are.

Longston, my parents came to the USA from France for the same purpose: to give me a better life
So now I'm going to the #1 rated university in the Western states, I drive a Mercedes, and I live by the ocean (granted at ma' and pa's house ). OH and we're now American citizens, and patriotic as we can be!

I am not offended....

You have to consider the actors in some of these situations... and also, they got the symbol 'rotating' the wrong direction.....LOL

Here are a few interesting sites to peruse...

http://history1900s.about.com/library/holocaust/aa120699a.htm

http://www.luckymojo.com/swastika.html

http://www.intelinet.org/swastika/swastika_intro.htm

At the end of the day the person who did this will be just as relavant as he was at the start of the day.... Which is the reason the French culture is feeling the same way the Arab culture is with respect to addressing the future .

That is not to say that religous radicals are not dangerous (of any brand )... and we may have to take them at their word on this being a religous war.... which is hard for a Western Thinker to grasp... and act appropriately...

The Swastika is the least offensive part of this. And to add to your links, here's one on the Native American Swastika which is what these fools mistakenly painted on the monument.

What bothered me was the act itself, compounded by the sentiment "dig up your rubbish, it's fouling our soil". That is no way to honor the sacrifice of human life that helped give these hooligans the freedom they now abuse.

This is a very disturbing problem to have such outright hatred being shown between the governments of our two countries, who have been allies in the past. Unfortunately, the foul stench of anti-American propaganda is now causing this kind of activity to manifest itself from within the ranks of the French people themselves. It is we, the people of these two nations who must help to resolve this before it really gets nasty.
