"Bling bling" was adopted from the cartoon sound effects you would hear when someone would flash jewelry!

...heard it a LOT on the "Richie Rich" cartoons for instance...

So when it evolved into the streets, it was a term used to describe something well-adorned with precious stones and metals.

A typical wannabe would point to his diamond-encrusted watch and go "bling" bling"...get it?
