Does anybody remember the Volvo 700's?
I believe they came out during the early 80's...first model was '82? There was the 760GLE, the 740GLE, the 740 Turbo, the 760 Turbo, and wagon versions...were these cars considered "high class" at the time? I have memories of these cars being high class for some odd reason...am I wrong?

I remember Volvo sold a ton of those cars. The turbos were good cars. Still see them once in a while

They are everywhere here. I still think with the right mods so can be some fast boxes going down the road

I have a relative who had a 1986 740 GLE that he used as a commuter car to drive from the San Fernando Valley into downtown L.A. to work everyday, and got over 400,000 miles on the car till her retired it.

I recently gave one to the Salvation Army. It was an '86 740T with 291K miles. Pretty darned quick and indestructible.
Check out www.brickboard.com and select the RWD forum.

I have an '85 745 Turbo w/ a 5 speed. Tons 'o fun. They are pretty high end, mine sporting heated leather seats, all the neat sensors that benz has and so on [light out, brakes wearing down and so on]. I believe '85 was the first year. If you can get a lower milage 700 w/ the turbo and 5sp, I say pick it up. You won't be sorry.

A long time ago a Volvo car designer ordered a new drafting table. it was a magnificant table from the finest makers of such devices.
It was such a table that it came if a fine wooden crate. When delivered, the designer came into his office to see the wooden crate sitting where his old table was. He walked over to the giant box, drew on some wheels and windows, and Volvo design for decades was born.

In Deadwood OR any volvo 700 series would be considered a very new car.many early seventies volvos still on the road here . I think Eugene OR may well be the old Volvo captial of the US.I had a 62 544 in the mid sixties ,but never cared for any other model......
