At the least, they make for enjoyable reading. Try as some of us might, we'll never really change anyones minds. I kinda like the debate, even though they can get quite heated at times.

As long as they are kept seperate, ie. General Discussion, as in a place where and when they are appropriate, I don't mind. Though it seems kinda sad to me just how many people seem to be closed minded, and unwilling to examine their perspectives. Still, we are fortunate to be afforded the freedom to have beliefs, and the freedom to speak them, no matter how ill concieved! lol

Yeah, what Eric said. I've gotten involved with them a couple times, and pretty soon get left in the dust. I should have paid more attention to my dad. He was pretty actively involved in politics. I'm trying to pay more attention now though. But our "discussions" usually degrade to a point that I'm not sure they do much good. Once everyone starts with the name calling and crap, I don't think it gets anywhere.
But heck, if some enjoy that, have at it! Like Diesel Power said, they're great entertainment for the rest of us :p

My thoughts exactly...sometimes I'll make a post giving my opinion, but I don't have the strength to debate further than one or two (if I'm really passionate about something) posts...besides, the few posts that I do make on those subject have a tendency to be long-winded.

Go John!!

I think they are okay as long as participants are articulate, thoughtful and respectful of other posters.

I enjoy them even though people that have different opinions from me (1) openly insulted me and my dog breed ( I own two poodles), called me gay (Im married) (2) questioned my education then when I told them what it was , whined that I was bragging . Opinion forum or opinionated hate forum ?

With all due respect to my friend Tabasco, who deserves no such insults as those he mentioned; I think this should be posted as a banner above all Open Discussion activity. It should furthermore be adopted as Open Discussion's credo, statement of mission/purpose, and all around advertising scheme. All we have to do is post it all over the internet, and it will lure tons of new members to the board (most of whom will wonder what the hell Mercedes automobiles do to the minds of their owners)....
