Interesting survey
One thing that I do agree with European's on is Boobies on TV. I don't understand why in a civilized country a murder, rape and others are allowed and not even a glimpse of a birthday suit. If I were head of the FCC you would see much less violence and tons of boobs.
TV violence more offensive than sex - US poll July 26 2003 at 10:03AM Los Angeles - More television viewers are offended by violence than by nudity or sexually charged language, a study commissioned by TV Guide magazine has found. The survey of 1 015 adults nationwide, details of which were released Friday, also found that 71 percent have changed channels to avoid seeing material they consider offensive, though 91 percent indicated they have never actually called a network to complain about such content. About 17 percent of those polled said "graphic violence and gore" were the most offensive things on TV, compared to nine percent for "bodily functions", eight percent for "foul language" and six percent for "nudity or sexual innuendo". A report on the study will appear in next week's issue of the magazine, which also noted that NBC did not receive a single complaint last year when U2 lead singer Bono swore on the air during the live broadcast of the Golden Globes award show. |

Re: Interesting survey
Quote:
but still not enough boobies for my taste..., most TV-channels here are quite decent. Cinema is another story.

I agree there is far too much violence on TV. I wonder how far society will have to decline before someone finally realizes that it is having such a huge negative impact, and do something about it. Have you ever seen the movie, "Bowling for Columbine"?
The problem with loosening censorship is that you no longer have any control over who is watching. I heard a news story awhile back about how they had loosened up the censorship in France, and were allowing soft porn on regular cable. There was a marked increase in the number of rapes by teenage boys. I think they already have such overloaded hormones, the extra stimulus sends them over the top. And porn probably sends the message all women 'want it'. I realize you are talking about nudity, not porn, but the usual reason people get naked in movies is for sex, and who knows at what point this shift in the mentality of the teenage viewer happens. Or were you thinking of everyone being naked regardless of whether or not it fit the plot? All naked courtroom dramas?? Ally McBeal except everyone is naked? And I assume you are all for co-ed nudity? You don't mind watching a few weenies waggle too, right? I almost never watch TV, but they were telling me at work about a show that comes on regular cable, fairly early, called "Kink". It sounded pretty bizarre. Reaffirmed my belief I'm not missing anything of worth by not watching TV. I guess I sound like a prude, I'm not, well, maybe... anyway, I just feel that if you want nudity you can rent a movie. |
