Talking re: odometer fraud "BOOK'EM, Danno!"

Good news, guys (and gals)!

On Monday I was driving down the main drag through SE Portland and sighted the blue ' 70's Chevy pickup the perp had been driving parked with a "FOR SALE" sign in the window, same cell phone number, etc.

I contacted the County Sheriff, gave them the info, but they were hesitant to do anything until my local PD got a file number assigned to the investigation. The local cop I had ben dealing with had spent the last 6 hours of his shift on Thursday at a grass fire site on the freeway (these things are known to result in multiple-car accidents and fatalities) and was off for three days. I beat feet over to the station and gave all the info, documents, etc. to the Sgt. Then, Tuesday a.m., the cop came by and got the ball rolling vis-a-vis the report.

Yesterday (Tuesday, afternoon... I'm just beginning to see..." I was going down the same street and parked in the IDENTICAL SPOT WHERE MY 450SE HAD BEEN LOCATED
when I 1st saw it was a van conversion, Arizona plates, same "FOR SALE" signs, same cell phone number, same kind of "one owner, low miles" BS, etc.

This time the Sheriff's Deputy scoped out the scene and made a call to the cell phone. I went over to the location and waited. The perp and his buddy (accomplice? We'll see...) showed up 10 minutes later and... I ID'ed him &

BANG-O! You are busted! They took him away in cuffs!

So much for the criminal "never return to the scene of the crime"...

Now, gettin' any dough back may be another mantter, but they said they would seize any cash ion him and I'm hoping for a cash bail (vs. on his OR) because you can sometimes get court-ordered restitution out of a cash bail...

Oh well: at least I caught him.

Thanks for the good wishes!

Norm

Reminds of that line from cartoons, "We have him where we want him, but we don't want him."

Whether or not you're compensated, it was worth your risk and effort to pause or end his charade.

Thumbs up "He's in the jailhouse now..."

And looking at a $45,000 cash bail... 3 felony charges here in Oregon.

But, (un)fortunately (for HIM!), he's also wanted on outstanding warrants in West (by GOD!) Virginia, Arizona, and somewhere else. An arrest record long as your arm, including Canada.

To the tune of another $80,000 bail he may have skipped... Can you say "extradition"?

As the PD officer said this noon: "Should'a seen the look on his face when we finally booked and fingerprinted him for ASCAP (I think that's the acronym?)! He says 'You mean I'm going to jail? I thought you were just gonna' give me a ticket!' "

Thumbs up I was there: we didn't speak.

He's still in jail. 3"Hots" & a cot!

I'm not really concerned, no history of any physical crimes in his rap sheet.

Just a scammer, con artist, flim-flam man... Albeit, a surprized one!

Cheers!

Good for you. I'm glad you got that dirtbag off the street!

Now if we can just work on the people who drive slow in the left lane.

Angry My heart's bleedin' for him!

Actually, the perp's got more to worry about from me than I have from him...

He intentionally defrauded me. I just made sure he didn't get away with it.

His other problems (identity theft, forgery, odometer tampering) are all results of HIS illegal actions. His previous wants & warrants are his, alone, to deal with...

In Clackamas County, 15% of the bail amount is retained by the County: that, and "other such funds at the discretion of the Court for fines & RESTITUTION when the charges have been brought to their final conclusion"... Who wants to foot this scumbag's next bail or subsequent flight to avoid prosecution? Fat chance!

He should be pissed at himself. I'm GLAD he's behind bars. If he ever comes around me, again, I am fully prepared to deal with any threat on whatever level is justified and legal

Cheers!
