Interesting that we'll get one here.
The SST project is one of the reasons my dad hired on at Boeing. He was origionally hired to work on the 747 project, but had hopes of transferring to the SST area. He was really bummed when it was canceled. (Remember when they had a huge painting of the SST on the side of the building in Seattle?)

Here's an update:

It is an interesting start to the 21st century - well okay - 21st century plus 2 years - that there is no commercial super sonic transport. A far cry from both AC Clarke's vision as shown in 2001 a Space Odyssey, and the desires of an awful lot of folks in the latter part of the 20th century.

Also an intresting irony that the Concorde will be parked for seveal years, at least, next to the first 707 based Air Force One

The article has it slightly wrong, BTW. Boeing's SST did get off the drawing board. They had gone so far as to build an almost complete full-sized mockup.

The mockup was torn down and lost for quite a while, until someone came across it. The Hiller Aviation Museum at San Carlos Airport currently has the pieces and is rebuilding it.

I got to see it a year or two ago while the museum was in the process of restoring it (couldn't get in, but could walk around). I wonder if they've fiinshed it by now...?

Are there still some relics of the Zeppelin era? Anything at Lakehurst

for instance, where the Navy blimp program was later based?
