Best Computer Speakers?

This is a discerning group, and our tastes in Mercedes-Benzes show that we appreciate the finer things in life.

With this in mind, what is this group's opinion on the best speakers for computers? I am Macintosh-based and looking to spend around $200 or so.

What do y'all think?

comp speakers

hey Kirk,

My friend just go a new G5, and he purchased a set of Klipsch speakers and subwoofer for $175 at Fry's Electronics here in SoCal. My opinion is that they are pretty darn good for less than 200 bones.

and Circuit City and came home with the 5.1 Altec Lansing, they sound great with my M-Audio sound card..

I bought for $200 about two years ago a set of Logitech 4.1 THX certified. ZX540 or something like that. I listened to the comparable Klipsch system, but the the Logitech was better and cheaper.

I have the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 set with a dual sub, 4 satellite speakers, and a center channel with a central controller. Very nice sounding setup, but it is $400.

IMNSHO, the best you can get without spending $400 on Klipsch is Creative Labs 5.1 5700. 5 satelites and a woofer, with a buttload of power.

However, if you have the appropriate soundcard to make use of the extra speaker, you should get the Creative Labs 6.1. It has the same setup as the 5.1, but an extra speaker made for directly behind you. Thats right, exactly 6 o'clock.
